It's not the battery or connections we've tried those and jumper cables won't work either. Acts like its not getting fuel

1999stroker 06-10-2012 03:16 PM

have you tryed throwing ice water on the crank postion senser ford has a recall on them i had one go out on me on vacation

farmerdude 06-10-2012 06:45 PM

could be starter going out. had one do the same thing to me.

Ltk 06-10-2012 07:38 PM

The starter seems fine. It acts like its not getting fuel. I have to test the fuel pump when I get home...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I thought the CPS was only problematic on the 7.3's

wildbill 06-10-2012 08:29 PM

When you say turns over slowly, it's as the engine isn't getting spun over fast enough or what do you mean exactly?

Ltk 06-10-2012 09:15 PM

Yes its as if the engine isn't turning over fast. But when pushing gas in and out it turns a little faster, but it sounds strange

bobfbigman 06-10-2012 09:46 PM

pull the connection off the ICP sensor and see what it does. Have you tested your FICM??

Ltk 06-10-2012 11:13 PM

the ficm was replaced recently, so it will be under warranty. didnt get a chance to test it.. i just had it towed basically. i dont have a way to tow my truck back, because our flatbed trailer doesnt have ramps or a winch on it.. and its my only means of transportation for work and stuff so i really had to get it fixed shortly. i will tell the guy to pull the icp sensor and test the ficm though. it acts like a HPOP problem maybe, but im not sure because ive never replaced it or had it fail :nope:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

where is the icp sensor at?

bobfbigman 06-10-2012 11:55 PM

do you hear the fuel pump? kinda thinking what you are but trying the free stuff first:ouch:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

ICP sensor is a pain in the butt on your truck, it's all the way on the top-back of the engine, it screws into the drivers side back of the HPOP cover, the one that is on top of the side of cover is the IPR valve

Mdub707 06-11-2012 10:02 AM

Is this for your 6.0? Might want to let others know that first next time, hard just guessing if it's the truck in sig and trying to diagnose.

Did it shut off on it's own? Or you turned it off, then went to restart and it wouldn't start? Was it puffing smoke at all when you were cranking it?

Ltk 06-11-2012 10:03 PM

wasnt puffing any smoke at all when starting. yes its for the 2003 6.0, sorry just kinda assumed people would know my bad lol.

i turned it off, ran inside and grabbed a water, then came back to truck. it was turned off for no more than 5 minutes, went to start it, and it turned over really slowly sounding like it was weak. i checked all my connections and went over any leaks didnt find anything. batteries were fine, fuel/oil levels were perfect. but there was 0 smoke... which is what makes me think it could be a fuel problem..

read this and see if it might be related:

6 days ago i filled up my AC with fri-on (i dont know if i spelled that correctly), thought maybe it was just low but turns out there was a hose with a leak in it. it worked for a few days then quit and became hot again. i was driving around late at night with the air on and started feeling sick. there was a burning smell coming from my air vents, and the truck was making a wierd noise like sandpaper scratching together (thats the best way i can desribe it)... i believe the noise and smell could be related to whats wrong with the truck, and the AC was just another problem not related.. but im not sure... its really hard to desribe things without actually being there but there you go, i gave it my best shot!! thanks for reading along. :argh:

tiremann9669 06-11-2012 10:11 PM

I wonder if what you smelled was somthing shorting out, the turning over slowly thing makes me think it's a voltage problem. :c:

Ltk 06-11-2012 10:18 PM

something couldve been shorting out but it went on for a few days any time id turn on my vents. youd think i would see smoke when idling with the hood open or something.. it really blows my mind..

bobfbigman 06-12-2012 12:16 AM

Loosen the belt and check your AC pulley to make sure it spins smooth, the bearing in mine went and it locked the motor up at idle, one of the balls tried to get past the race and was wedged inbetween and locked up, AC wasn't working right before this happened. The AC refrigrant can definately make you sick, take it to a shop and they can use a special lite to find the leak

Ltk 06-12-2012 10:31 PM

i will tell the mechanic to check that.

the night i started feeling sick i thought i had an exhaust leak and had gotten carbon monoxide poisoning.. it was bad...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

just got off the phone with the mechanic.

he said the AC compressor locked up.

he got the truck started and said when it did, the belt broke and wrapped around the fan so he has to take the front end parts out and replace the belt and hes replacing the compressor for me.. anybody know prices on these parts or how many hours it should take to do all this. i dont want to get screwed on labor. :argh:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

anybody...?

bobfbigman 06-13-2012 01:49 AM

kind of depends on where he gets them, I think I paid around $60 for the belt and if it's just the clutch that is probably At least a $100 from ford, seen them on ebay for like $60

dmaxjenn 06-13-2012 12:50 PM

We had to do a quick fix at work once and we just bypassed the ac compressor and put shorter belt on...... wish i seen this before you got towed ...worked yesterday... ac compressors can be expensive.. do you need a air conditioning right now:humm:?

Ltk 06-13-2012 01:53 PM

i dont necessarily have to have one, but it would be nice. im in the truck like 6-7 hours a day driving around and its 95 and humid out today lol :argh:

yea i found a belt for 65 that includes the ac compressor.

i found an OEM ac compressor for $200, so i guess itll all be fine.

i hope it only takes 2-3 hours labor to take out the radiator fan and unwrap the belt and install new things...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

can a locked up ac compressor really make the truck not start? thats what has me puzzled:humm:

bobfbigman 06-13-2012 03:33 PM

I was on way back from Daytona races this year and we pulled into the Virginia rest stop and truck was idling and it just shut off, turned the key and motor acted like it was locked up, it didn't budge, pulled the belt loose and checked all my pulleys and found te AC cluch locked up. so ys a bad ac can lock the truck up.

Ltk 06-13-2012 11:16 PM

well damn!! thanks for the info on that, i literally would have never guessed something as simple as that.. there i was checking voltage and listening for fuel pump and tapping starter and trying to jump it and everything:td:

tiremann9669 06-14-2012 10:22 AM

At least it was somthing relatively simple. :c:

Ltk 06-14-2012 01:00 PM

yea, im glad it wasnt anything major and out of the ordinary like every other problem that has happened to me! :rocking:

Eddiebuntain 06-14-2012 03:27 PM

Why he was in the fire lane lol

Ltk 06-14-2012 11:54 PM

haha i know 2 or 3 cops drove by i was just waitin on one of them to tell me to move. wouldve been hilarious, but then again i love bothering cops

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i was in the fire lane because i hate having to park 3 miles away from the store..

dmaxjenn 06-17-2012 10:52 AM

well i know this cause i was freaking out for this customer who had to get his kids back to the city and we couldnt get the new ac compressor in from the dealer in time, :scare2: so i asked the mech if there was a quick fix,:humm: and he was like yea just bypass the compressor.. it was easy and got him home.:tu:

That's what those blue spaces with the funny signs are for!! JK, don’t do that.
Sounds like you need one of them Rascal scooters. I just go about 2 or 3 in the morning, very few cars or other patrons at that time of night. Only works if the store's open 24hrs though, seems like most wally worlds are.

Ltk 06-19-2012 11:13 PM

the total came out to $912.00... 520 for parts and 392 labor. overall not as bad as i expected, but not as good as i wanted either..

yea i usually go to walmart at night but when i go in the daytime im always in the fire lane. or i make my own parking spot lol

dmaxjenn 06-20-2012 12:08 PM

ouch.......4 hours to do that? I guess they took the whole front end off then? :humm: mark up 45% on parts... yupe..they got ya..:moon:

Ltk 06-20-2012 04:50 PM

he ended up replacing the dryer unit whatever the hell that was, the ac compressor, the belt, frion for the compressor, and a rear seal in something.. ill have to look at the bill..

i need to buy myself another vehicle so i dont have to rush to fix the problems my diesel has. only reason i have to rush is because its my only means of transportation to work :argh:

it sucks not fixing my own problems

biged681985 06-20-2012 07:42 PM

any time u replace the ac compressor u are supposed to replace the dryer and something else that im drawing a blank on right now cause i have a headache :argh:
