Questions on a 99 Dodge 24 valve

Let me start by saying I'm a woman on a budget, if you can even call it that, so please keep that in mind. My ex had been using my truck to get to work with due to better fuel mileage and his vehicle maintenance habits leave a ton to be desired. So,now that I have the truck back I am starting to service the truck myself and am trying to learn everything I can about it.

Anyway. I drive a 1999 Dodge with the 24 valve cummins, 4x4 dually. Just turned 296k on the truck this week. Have owned the truck since it had 74k on it and everything is stock. Truck was giving the symptoms of the TPS/APPS going bad almost 2 years ago and we did a reset on it at that time. Seemed to help the truck pretty well. Started doing the hunt for gears things several months ago, seemed to get better so I thought nothing of it. As of recent it started getting worse again, when driving slow it will surge a little faster off and on even with consistent pressure on the pedal. The rpms have seemed to increase recently too, wish I would've paid attention to what they were prior. Parking rpms have picked up to roughly 900 rpms, and idle rpms are around 750. I reset the APPS on Monday after the rpms were jumping around that afternoon.Thought it helped a little but yesterday afternoon parking rpms spiked to roughly 1000 or slightly higher. This morning I started the truck and it was idling just under 1000 rpms. Took off for work and made it just around the corner before there was no response from the gas pedal. Truck was still running and was able to drive it home by idling it home and the check engine light was on. I just redid the APPS now the correct way and the gas pedal is now engaging again, though the check engine light is still on. Parking rpms are now about 800 and idle rpms are just under 750.

Recent maintenance includes: New fuel filter and air filter within the last 3 weeks. Desperately needs an oil change but am waiting for payday to get it done as well. I'm also getting ready to replace the hydraboost pump(?) if that bares any relevance to my current problem.

Sorry for the novel but just trying to give as much info as possible. So my question is: Can I milk the truck until payday next Friday? I have no money until then and without my truck I can't get to work to make the money necessary for the repairs. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Did you replace the APPS? You will prob need to reset the computer by disconnecting batteries. That should make your light go off.

Here's a link where I got my APPS. Got me going again. Good deal too. http://www.dodgecumminsapps.com/

Thanks for your reply. I have already reset the APPS and have the truck operating for now. Used a scan gauge on it and it threw the code for the APPS. So I ordered one yesterday from Timbos Apps after seeing so many recommendations in the archives here for the part. Tim is great btw, super nice and helpful. Can't wait to get the truck repaired. For now I'm just milking it along until the part gets here. Thanks again and have a good day!
