Clicking under hood 1986 6.9 won't start

When I try turning the key to start the glow plugs I get rapid clicking the glow plug lights do not turn on but radio lights work. I can crank the engine but won't turn over. I parked last night and when I went to fire it up this morning I now have these issues
Help please.

check batteries and the pos/ground wire

gradyc 02-02-2012 09:50 PM

That is definitely the sign of either dead/weak batteries or bad cable connections.

Plugged the ol girl in and went to grab some tools, when I hit back tryed one more time and she fired up like normalglow plug lights came on like normal. Pluging the truck in only warms the block right nothing to do with the batteries, right. Do y'all still think its bad connection or weak batteries. Bought this little rig truck three months ago and hi had told me batteries were only couple months old. Driver side neg cable has exposed wire in couple of large spots elec tape them

i bet you got a loose connection probable on the ground side

I will fallow up on tracing the grounds and hots for good measure. As soon ass Colorados record breaking February blizzard passes already 12inches of snow fall and it's only been 5 hours. So happy I'm on my week off and not working on the rig floor (Xtreme 11 coil drilling). Another thing I noticed was that I have a leak somewhere front drivers side looks like pwr steering pump fluid but I'm good on all fluid I will take a pic there is a lot of build up on engine side wall but I can't see anything leaking and it does not leave any drips on the drive way pics will help u see the odd location and the large amount of lost fluid all other fluids are good to go on my dip sticks

probably a leaky gear box on your steering. same happened to my old '85 6.9, if I remember, it was only like $150 to replace. same is wrong with my '01 right now, common...:argh:
