F350 Ford 2004 FICM readings...

Hello again - the 6.0 L is giving me trouble starting below -5 degrees celsius (140,000 km on truck)

Glow plugs were all replaced last week
Thought about getting the FICM replaced or repaired but first I have some readings here - any input would be appreciated

20 V - ignition on / engine off UNTIL GLOW PLUG LIGHT GOES OFF
when glow plug LIGHT GOES OFF - reading is then 48 V

48V - engine cranking

27V - engine running at 800 RPM
24V - engine running at 2000 RPM

Voltages increase slowly the longer the truck runs - both idle and 2000 RPM readings

As soon as the engine is turned off - key removed - voltages go back up to 48V and then slowly drop to zero V after a few minutes

Any suggestions would be appreciated - the first sign of this trouble was when the temp dropped to -5 degrees

Thanks

if it ever drops below 46-48v its bad.

mdub707(mike) fixes them.

DONT buy a new FICM, because it will be weak and eventually have the same issues.

While reviewing other posts for 6.0 L starting problems - I wanted to mention that I have recently done an oil change 5,000km before temperature has dropped here in Canada and have used 5W40 synthetic oil - have I just created a problem or problems with this oil choice?

Your oil choice is not a problem. I agree , don't buy a new FICM because tou will need to get it reflashed at the Stealer, get it rebuilt.

Thanks, It looks like I need a rebuilding of my ficm , I have read some units are bumped up to 56v output , Is this a good thing or am i looking for more problems if I use my f350 as a every day runner ( stock truck ) with minor towing .

ive heard good things about a 58v FICM, i believe swamps does one...

Thanks , Being an old school diesel teck this shit is new to me . Got this truck two years ago and has run great since this winter , never had a reason to go further then filter and fluid changes. being a newbie I am still finding my way around. How do I find swams or mike to ask more questions about the 56v system vs the 48v .And is any one running this voltage in there trucks
