12 valve will not lite

Hello fellow bombers,
i have a 1990 first gen cummins 12 valve, i was leaving the bank and gave it about half throttle, then the truck just started to pour grey smoke with no power, so i limped it bout a mile to my shop, it died as soon as i pulled in the gate.i thought it was the lift pump and sure enough the mech lift pump went out. so i replaced it, primed the pump bled all lines cracked injector lines 1-6 then all 6, sprayed silicon starting fluid and it starts but will not stay running with out it. slept on it got up and tryed it all again multiple times. i regulated about 20psi of air into the tank, noda. fuel will spray to hood out of injectors. do yall think its the ve pump or possible faulty lift pump. please help thanks Josh
ps does run on silicon starting fluid just fine.:argh:

Can you give it throttle while your aiding it with the spray? What does it do?

texasmudmilitia 12-27-2011 06:53 AM

No man. Zero throttle response while aiding

fuel shut off solenoid failure?

did you get fuel from the injector lines while they were cracked?

Removed soloniod plunger and spring, noda same problem, injector lines are pulsing some times beging to think its the ipump fml:scare2:

I would make sure the IP is getting good fuel first, hook an electric pump up to push fuel to it and see what happens.. it will also let you see if there are any leaks in the system.

there might be an air leak in the line to your mechanical pump since you just replaced it.

I'm gonna guess the LP had been getting weak or gone out quite some time ago and the VE struggled along pulling fuel on it's own until it finally got hoofed. It's just not making enough pressure to pop the injectors any more. :nope:
