1993 idi n/a throttle cutting out repeatedly when wide open... HELP!

Love this site and have learned tons from just bumping around here... I have a thread started on a fuel flow issue that I have not got a response to, so I figured I would post here as well... I realize that there are not supposed to be tech ?s here, but I am getting desperate. I don't want to spend $250 on an IPS and find out it is the IP. Does a new IP include the IPS on it?

I have a bitchin 1993 non turbo IDI A/T ambulance that has run great for 3 years, but is now having what I think is an electronic fuel relay problem. Almost 200k on her, runs and idles well (does take longer to start though...), but when you mash the throttle, fuel seems to be cutting out intermittently. At its worst it will throttle for 2 seconds and cut out for one and so on. I can drive it if I am light on the pedal and it does it FAR less. My tach also started going haywire about the same time... 0 at idle and will register under hard acceleration... Don't care about that so much unless they are related, though. I'm also running a bit hotter than usual, but suspect that has to do with the fuel flow. IPS? IP? I've been told there is no CPS in this engine. That is the extent of my abbreviation knowledge, so full part names would be appreciated please! HELP!

with what you have explained, it sounds like a lift pump problem, these engine are all mechanical

hmmm... OK. At least that is one of the least expensive possibilities! I will check it out tomorrow. Any way to test it while still mounted? I thought that the engine would not even run if the lift pump fails...

You're over due for a new injection pump.

that's what I was afraid of. Looks like I'm driving my miata or riding my xl500 until I have a couple days to knock it out! Thanks!
