2000 7.3 glow plug issue

replacing glow plugs on my dads 7.3, 7 of them came out great. but the first one on the left side is where everything went bad. the glow plug was tight all the way out and only the threded partnand the tube came out. like the actual electrode is stuck in there, im not really sure where to go from here...im thinking possibly the tip is bent and it wont come out...possibly carboned up or something please help its still tore down in my shop and he needs it...thanks

It is burned up and has swelled on the tip The book says to remove the head. I don't know if there is any chance of fishing the part out with a magnet through the injector hole or not. You would have to take a punch and punch it into the cylinder, remove the injector and try to pull it out through the injector hole with a magnet. If that doesn't work the only fix is to remove the head.

Anything is on the table at this point. There are some who have got these out, I'd search google for some ways to get them out. Try all the ones you are comfortable with. Otherwise the head has to come off..

One thought just came to mind. If the piece is still stuck in the head you could try starting the engine without the rest of the glow plug screwed in and the pressure blows the rest of it out. The only method that is without some risk of causing damage is to pull the head.

Well here is what I did...I got a pair of needle nose v-grips on the tip and another pair of v-grips on the handle of the other ones to make an L then with a hammer I started to try and tap it out...well it broke...but before that to get more room I pulled the injector out..me and dad decided there wasn't wrought time to pull the head off so we left what was in there and capped the glow plug off with another one we cut to fit (I know its the wrong way to do it) this is just a bandage for right now...we put the injector back in put everything back together then tried to fire it up..well it was hydro locked because of the fuel. Got the fuel out, out everything back together and it starts and drives. But it seems like it take just a bit longer to fire it up now...any ideas? Because I pulled the injector? Please help if ya can

Ya, you let air into the system... It will take some time to get normal starts...

If you didn't replace the o-rings on the injector it is possible that they are leaking which will cause starting problems and it most likely won't run quite as well either. It is always a good idea to replace o-rings when you pull an injector.

Didn't have the o rings. But i made extra sure to clean and lube the o rings...he said it ran great tho

You can not reuse the O rings. You will WILL have issues with that cylinder very soon.
