Ok installed a new Vp44 and truck still wont run right. I can get it running after I bleed all the air out fo the lines and shut the truck off it wont start back up. I drove it for about and hour today shut it off trid to start it imediatly back up and nothing. I can give it a small shot of starting fluid and it fires up. New fuel filter, 15psi at idle, 13 at WOT so what the heck am I missing?

I had this same problemsome years back and ended up having it towed into a Cummins shop. They found a bad ground on the LP that was letting fuel flow back to the tank while the truck was off, it was losing it's prime.

If not it sounds like an air leak someplace in the lines.

I dont know but it is driving me nuts. I'm going to clean off all my grounds, battery post and that tomorow and see if that does anything. I thought it was an air leak but dont see fuel anywere.

If you don't see fuel leaking then if you have a leak it is probably between the pick up tube in the tank and the LP. In that section it is sucking pressure in instead of pushing fuel out.

Only place it could be leaking then is in the tank itself. My lift pump is six inches from the pickup and I already check all that line and fittings. I also have a full tank of fuel though.

when you replaced the VP did you also replace the relief valce on the side of the IP?

No but I was told that will not cause the problems I'm having. That usually lets it loose prime over night and I'm loosing it instantly.

Depnding on if it is stuck open or closed, or just a weak spring, not to mention stuck how far open or closed that little fitting can do anything. It should always be replaced when you are installing a new VP. Personally I would say before you install the new one just to besure that it's not the problem your having in the first place.

I dont know right now. I'm trying to get one from the local diesel shop now.
