I Hope Someone Has An Idea Here ! Help

:sos:OK i was driving home not beating my truck but yes it does get run good at times.
I was driving home and started feeling a vibration almost like a flat tire sound coming from the truck i can feel it in the pedel also.
It like a loud mud tire feeling and i can figure it out at all. Drive shats seem ok
tires are ok seems to shift fine and letting the clutch out with no gas seems to be ok but when i do drive it at lower speeds it sound quite weird and its not good.
Also if i shift into a higher gear real quick to load down the motor it really vibrates.

I need some ideas on what to look for or what it might be.

Could it be a bad clutch, blown rear ft or back, Transfer case The 6 speed gear box i hear is pretty hard to break.

when was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

STROKER400 01-03-2008 12:50 PM

It is changed and so on less the 3000 miles ago.
I went to the store before it started I sat and left the truck idel for 35 mins. wich should be no big deal and when i left i got half way home and the truck is makeing i belkive a drive line noise vibration rubbing sound hard to explain. And it is most noticeable at low speeds.

Sounds like a carrier bearing to me. Sounds exactly like that. The bearing is fine, but the rubber that supports the bearing is shot, allowing the drive line to vibrate at lower speeds. At higher speeds, centrifugal force keeps the drive line in position.

Something all of a sudden like that makes it sound like a u-joint or maybe a trans mount.

If you hit the gas & then let off does the vibe get worse?

STROKER400 01-03-2008 02:37 PM

No it does it all the time and its more like a rubbing but not a naaty grinding sound take a piece of hard plastic and while a tire is spining hold it against it.

And the carrier bearing! Isnt that only in a 2 piece drive shaft i have a long bed reg cab ram not sure what u mean by carrier bearing sorry! I did smell ruber when i got home that night not sure if it was the truck or the outside at home hummm

This is hard it sounds like all that and if u hear a real choppy tire going down the road and u slow down it makes that humming noise. I give up. trying to explain this is not working. Let me just hear ideas cause i do not have warranty left and i dont think the cummins warranty will cover drive line its and 04 1/2 with 55,000 on it

ya i say carrier bearing too i went through lots on my 06 (from being reeealyyyy hard on it)

johntf 01-03-2008 02:47 PM

Yes carrier bearing is 2 piece drive shaft , it mount to frame at joint of the 2 drive shafts , try to fallow the smell of the rubber .
Start at front of truck with flash lite , look at everything that spins , balancer , serp belt , ect .

STROKER400 01-03-2008 03:17 PM

Ok all Mine is not a 2 piece drive shaft. So i do not have a carrier bearing correct?

Next Will A clutch cause a problem like this even with the clutch is pushed in coasting it still makes the noise.

And Does anyone know if my front drive shaft should spin freely be cause in nutral it does not spin. when it is not in 4x4

TEXASPOWER 01-03-2008 03:22 PM

t case has to be in nuetral
