Egr circuit 6.4 ford

My dad is having issues with his truck. It will only run about 40 mph and while pulling the boat it only gets up to about 25. We drove for about an hour before it ever threw a code so we stopped.and checked it, code is P040D, egr circuit a high or something along those lines. Does anyone know a trick we can do to get us home? We have a 5 hour drive and there are no mechanics open where we are. Thanks for any help.

It sounds like one of your 3 EGT sensor has gone bad, TAKE it to a FORD dealer, the code p040d means a fault has been found in EGR temp sensor A circuit, the most common problem we see if the sensor itself, it is mounted in the RH uppipe to the turbo, the easiest way to get at this sensor is to remove the RH inner fender well. Spray some penetrating oil on the sensor, sometimes these sensors gall in the threads and twist off, sometimes they will come right out.
