2002 6.6L Duramax.

Okay. Rode fine all day today and went to go to the store tonight and my truck started but died after about 2 seconds of running. I tried to restart it and it wouldnt. Its turning over but will not start. This is my first diesel and I'm turning to yall before I do the typical gas burner routine. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

change the fuel filter...sounds like its clogged up creating a vacume on ya...replace it and then prime it again and it should be fine

Replaced the fuel filter. Same thing. Primed it bled the air and it started for about 30 seconds then died. Making me think the fuel pump went out. Turned the accessory on and didnt hear it humming.

your truck dosnt have a fuel pump...the way they are fed fuel is by the vacume created by the gear to gear mechanical fuel pump on the back of the CP3...which is why a clean filter is so important...it will take a little while to get all the air out...more then one prime and bleed cycle

Roger gonna do that now thanks bud.

also where is the cp3 located at?

hey quick update: Primed it out a few times theres a purge valve beside the alternator where diesel fuel is coming out a plugged in with my finger because its supposed to have a cap over it and truck started up and ran fine. let it sit for 20 minutes came back and it had trouble cranking but it cranked right up. I believe that valve that doesnt have a cap is allowing air to enter and causing it to not get fuel. un glued 2567839711 call me if you can about that monitor

cummin_un_glued 12-24-2010 09:47 PM

yeah sounds like you have an air leak somewhere...another place to check would be the oring on the fuel filter, sometimes they get a little spot on them that will get caught and let air in....pm'd ya about the monitor would have called ya but its allmost 10 and didnt wanna disturb ya you can call me tomorrow tho if you want i will be at the house till around 2

Just replaced the fuel filter and put new orings on it. I think its that purge alve cause i put myfinger over it after primingand it sucked to my finger.

Could be the security box. My truck at work had a problem where it wouldn't start because of a security feature.

my bros 01 duramax was just having very similar problems. he bought a fuel filter head rebuild kit, consited of some o-rings for the the fuel filter head. he had it installed pretty quick and it fixed the problem. there was a few fuel lines that were very dried out and rotten while he was doing the job, low sulfer diesel is very hard on everything, always add some tcw-3 to your diesel to avoid future problems.
