Won't Start

First please forgive me as I am a novice concerning Diesel Engines and really new to computers and the internet. I have spent some time last nite and today browsing this site and am very impressed with the members and their expertise.

I have a 1999.5 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke with 220,000 miles. It started fine and ran well until 2 days ago. I went to start the truck but the "wait to start" light did not come on. I tried to start it, the motor turned over fine, but would not start. The tempature at the time was about 33. I plugged in the truck and about 1-1/2 hours later checked and found the heater worked, the motorl was warm and the batteries measured 14.1 volts. There was still no "wait to start" light, and the motor would still not start.

I would appreacicate any advice. Thanks

Glow plug relay. Looks like a brown color relay on top the motor close to the fuel filter bowl. That's probably the problem you can put a tester on it or just replace it. Super easy to replace. What it does is warm up your glow plugs and combustion chamber to prepare the motor for the initial start up.

I was thinking about it and it maybe a fuel bowl heater problem, the wire could be frayed under the fuel filter bowl. Look at the fuses under the hood by the air filter box and see if any are blown. If there is one disconnect the fuel bowl heater before replacing and check the wire for wear.

^^what he said. If the fuel heater shorts it blows the fuse which somehow is tied into the ecm(i think, its been a while) so the ecm doesn't know that you are trying to start the truck which causes a no start condition. Check the fuses it should be one of the bigger ones under the hood.
