How to remove chev nv4500 countershaft 5th gear please help
I lost fifth gear the other night in my 87 chevy 4x4 cummins. Come to find out the guy I bought the tranny from didnt have a nut on fifth gear why idk. And I never looked at it to see before I installed. Well my countershaft 5th gear has 3 teeth chewed up and I need to take it off so I can get the new one out but it wont pull out because of the shift fork.

Lower gear removal, remove snap ring then drive 2 roll pins from shift fork, slide gear and fork off as an assy. pretty smooth pay attention to synchro "dogs and springs" (sorry no pics to dl) and there clock position if things are abit sticky spray with good cleanser then again liberally with penetrating juice hope this helps ( dont be feared pretty straight forward ) :tu:
