A518 trans problem.
 

Just completed a 12v cummins/a518 swap in a F350. Everything runs fine and such but when i try putting it in gear all i get is whinning/moaning/slight grinding from trans in every gear. Now before i pulled the motor/trans out of dodge it ran and drove fine without these issues. The trans had no fluid in it, i filled it before i started it, it also rolls like its in neutral in every gear with engine off.... Trans shot? how? or just fluid didnt get through all of the trans and no pressure for it no engage gear? I hate autos, so not very knowladgable on em, i grew up around eaton-fuller crash boxes and big trucks. Yes trans kickdown cable is hooked up too.

How'd you manage the shifter connection? I'd make sure it's got fluid and try manually engaging the shift lever from underneath to make sure it's working and hitting all the detents properly. Get somebody inside holding brakes that work, of course! :ouch:

I modified the cable shifter to work with the arm on the dodge trans, it shifts in to all the gears it looks like. Ill try shifting them manually in a few and see if its any different.

Bad spline in wrong transmission, in case anyone wondered.

So it was working/shifting OK, just not engaging the output shaft from the engine?
