truck overheated now it wont run.
i have a 99 7.3 6 speed powerstroke. i bought the truck and on the way home (3 hour ride) the engine overheated. i releaved the pressure from the resivor cap and let it cool down. i started it back up about 30 mins later and continued down the highway (had a 9' plow on the truck.) the temp guage got into the red again and it stalled out.
i got it towed and i went the nextt day with a bunch of coolant and tried to get the truck to run. i filled the resivor and i tried a shot of ether. it ran for a second and shut off. any ideas? it will just crank and not run. the fual pump is working. thanks! |
I think you probably have some type of issue before the truck ever overheated... How often do PSD's overheat?? Not often... Any codes?
|
is there any safety shutdowns or codes that have to be reset before it will start again :humm:
|
I don't think so... I would start by doing everything you can to verify the ability to run. Are you getting a "wait to start" light??
|
give it a try.
i checked all the fuses. and there is a fuel pump shut-off switch that i checked. i checked the codes. and i accidently cleared them. (i have a crappy code reader) the only one that wouldnt clear is a Wastegate code (which shouldnt matter to the situation) and a camshaft position sensor error

Cam position sensors are a big problem with the powerstrokes. They will crank and maybe start for a minute but then die. Sounds like two seperate issues happened to hit at the same time. My moneys on the cam position sensor

Good idea. CPS is the first thing I would change.
|
ha! you guys are good.
I was told by one of my local buddies that its either my CPS or IDM i replaced the CPS and it was all covered in coolant. thanks for the help! trucks started right up! |
