2000 F-250 Dies

Here it is some times will run for weeks then dies usually at idle. Have replaced cam sensor a couple of times. Finally got it to die when I had my scanner with me. While it would not restart I could not communicate with the processor at all no codes no data.... Any ideas would help thanks Wayne....

Check the #30 fuse under the hood, check and make sure your OBD2 port is powered (same plug also powers the cig lighter or the powerport, I cant recall.

Once you have checked those two things then take a look here and pull the IPR and clean it.

I'll check back later!

Good luck!

Still dies

Okay to answer a few questions. The fuel filter gets changed every oil change... 5000 miles and has been for 134000 miles. I do not think it can be the # 30 fuse Because once I get it to start my scanner , a snap on solis, can then communicate with the processor. I will check the power side of the fuse the next time I get it to die and not restart though could be a relay that powers this fuse. good idea and I thank you for that one. Now for the IPR I do not think this because of the communication problem with the processor when it will not start. Thanks again and any suggestions will be tried and appreciated... Wayne

Trust me, there is a little piece of crap in your IPR... It will work loose every now and then and bang, truck shuts down. Sometimes it will fire right back up, sometimes not... I always carry a spare with me. This happened to me about a month ago. Coming to work, truck died, started back up, died, started back up, died for good... Swapped out the IPR and bang... back in busness.

Pull the IPR and clean it up. Its not a fuel issue, you really dont have to change your filters but every 15k... Anymore then that is a waste.

I agree the IPR can cause the engine to die and not restart intermittently but it can not cause the communication problem which I would believe to be the cause of the dieing. Thanks Wayne and yes I will pull my IPR and clean it anyway Thanks again

Okay just replace IPR , Had one one the shelf , ran engine while I was doing some cleaning in the shop. Truck died again. At idle just died would not restart, No communication with processor again. Tried to start a couple of times then bam starts right up and of course communication is restored.... Any suggestions would bee cool Thanks Wayne

Is there a chip on the PCM?

When you have no communication, does your glow plug light go out as normal after turnin the key? Tach move with the cranking?

Chip

Yes there is a chip on the processor. I pulled the processor and cleaned the board and the chip terminals. Thought that fixed it but about two weeks later it started dieing again. Thats when I found this dieselbombers and decided to post and have recieved some great replies. To finish answering all your questions I will have to get it to die again and check the glowplug light and other things to see if the processor is communicating with anything. I will post the results . THanks Wayne

unplug your chip for a little while and see if its because of a bad connection
