ICP Problem?

Hello all,

I recently purchased an 03 250 with the 6 liter with 83k. It now has 89k and I am experiancing power loss at higher rpm in cold weather. It seems as if I am only experiancing this problem if the temp outside is less than 10 degrees. Otherwise the truck runs just fine. I am not getting any check engine lights. I have been doing alot of reaserch online about this problem and have found several people reference the ICP module in connection with the same problems as I am having. I looked and cannot see any oil leaking from the rear of the engine but could not inspect the module too close as the motor was still real hot. I contacted a local ford dealership and they quoted me $490 for a ICP and Connector but could not tell me if it would fix the problem or not. I was wondering if it could also be the EGR? Also, unrelated to this, when I purchased the truck the fuel pump has a abnormally loud hum to it and I was told by a mechanic that the hum is just a noise and will not effect the fuel pressure. He did recomend I replace the fuel pump somtime to avoid the possibility of the pump "giving up the ghost" somewhere in western kansas.... any suggestions or possibilites would be greatly appriciated as i do not want to replace anything that does not need replacing!!!

I think you need to rig up a mechanical fuel pressure gauge to read fuel pressure when this is happening. What you may be fighting is lowered fuel pressure in cold due to the fuel being so close te gelling. Your fuel pump may be struggling, you will see this on the gauge. Also, a fuel filter change may not be a bad idea. Not just the one on the motor, either. Not many people know there is a fuel filter on the frame rail right with the pump as well.
