injector has gone south

MUDSTROKIN' 01-14-2010 09:27 AM

What do i need to do to fix it? replace the injector? or is it just dirty or what? In the past 2 fill ups i've put in some powerservice diesel supplement and some 2 cycle oil...

And if thats the case do i just repace that one injector?

First, I would get ahold of someone with a scanner. Clear the code, then buzz the injectors. This will release any additional FICM codes. If the code for #1 returns, then I would pop the valve cover and see if there is any noticeable wiring damage. These trucks love to chaff wires. If you can't find any damage, then it could be an injector, but then again it could be a FICM as well . . . .

EDIT -

DISCONNECT THE EDGE! See if the problem persists after that. We are pulling them off trucks left and right for failures. Do this first.

i buzzed the injectors before i pulled this code. Buzz test passed...

Diesel Nut 01-14-2010 10:05 AM

So, this code appeared after you buzz tested the injectors? Clear the code and buzz them again. If you have a low volt on cir 1 you will get that code at the conclusion of the buzz test. Thats the whole point of the buzz test.

You got jokes

Nut i'm lost as to what your sayin?? I'm supposed to get that code after running a buzz test? bc the codes were cleared before i did the buzz test??? If my injector is bad i'm guessing that explains my loss in power and shitty MPG?

Diesel Nut 01-16-2010 01:50 AM

When you buzz the injectors that also allows the FICM to release internally stored codes that may not show up normally. If the code was not present before buzzing the injectors then its a stored code. If you clear the code, then buzz the injectors, if the code returns you have an issue that requires addition investigation. If the code does not, don't worry about it too much.

Updates??

MUDSTROKIN' 01-19-2010 08:06 AM

No the code wasn't there before buzzing the injectors. i buzzed the injectors and it popped up? Any idea as to how to find out what the actual problem is? From what i've heard and read it could be anything from chafed wires to the ficm to a bad battery??
