2003 Cummins with Tranny Trouble

I took my 03 Dodge dually to a repair shop and they did a tranny flush. A few days later the trans. started shifting irratic. The shop put a chevron multipurpose ATF in the trans not +4.
I called chevron oil and they advised me that the fluid they used was not warrantied for +4 transmissions. Now I am being told that even thought it was the wrong fluid that they added it would have nothing to do with my trans. shifting irratic. I need HELP!

Get it out of there quick. ATF+4 ONLY!!! I'd make the shop you had work on fix the problem. They shoulda known better. :s:

I took it back to them and they did another flush, put ATF+4 in it and the trans is still doing the same thing. They are telling me that the fluid they used could not have caused the problem.

Did they adjust the bands?? And by flush, just replace the filter, clean the pan, and top of with fluid. Or did they hook it up to a machine??

They hooked it up to a machine, flushed it and did not replace the filter. I found all of this out yesterday, after the fact. the shops answer was that since it had 118,000 miles on it, it was going bad anyway and they could not of damaged it with what they did.

Need to replace the filter (not sure why they didn't after they flushed it). When you actually flush a transmission, it stirs up all the crap inside, and can do some major damage to the transmission. Take it back again and tell them to replace the filter and adjust the bands. Also, be ready to get another transmission. :ouch:

So am I wrong in thinking it is their fault?

wildbill 12-19-2009 01:03 AM

They should've known better installing something other than ATF+4, and never, ever do a flush.

I thought they were doing a service. :argh: now I am trying to figure out if I need to fight them on it or just eat it.... They just keep telling me even though they used the wrong fluid in it with some kind of chemical pack that there is no way it could cause my trans. to start shifting irratic and nuetral out as the tech called it. I no nothing about transmissions but it just seems odd that this started after they did the flush.

I'd fight em. If you told em a service and they flushed it, they're responsible for repairs relating to their screw up.
