95 powerstroke no HPOP pressure

95 powerstroke 85,000 miles. It has no high pressure oil pressure. 30psi cranking to be exact. The main oil pressure is higher than high pressure. I have put 3 hpops in it, idm, ecm, icp sensor, IPR, jumped the IRP to a power source to fully open, and still no pressure. This is physically impossible I am starting to think, but howerever I am seeing it with my own eyes. I parked a 97 that runs fine next to it and swapped all kinds of parts, in the end the 97 runs with the 95's parts but not the 95. What else could be wrong?? There is feed oil to the HPOP but no pressure coming out of it. The gears arent stripped as I can turn the engine with the hpop drive gear nut. Help me out guys, I am pretty good with powerstrokes but this one has me pulling my hair out.:argh:

oh, and I dead headed the hoses going from the HPOP to the oil banks. I dead headed those hoses into a gauge and still 30psi, so I know its not an injector o-ring or cup or anything of that nature.

I sure wish i could help you out. All the stuff you listed above should of cured the problem. 3 hpops wow. IF you can turn the engine over by the gear, and all the oil is getting fed to it with no restrictions,...damn...im not a 444 guru. I know you stated O-rings are good. i guess double check and make sure none got pinched or nicked. I work on alot of 466E's and ive not worked on many 444's. i know the 466s have a different hpop set up than the 444. WOW you got me stumped. Whats the spec on the supply oil presssure to the pump?. Is it just engine oil pressure?. what i dont understand that if that spec is correct and its just EOP supply, then why wont the pump do its job........:argh:. Has to be internally in the hpop. heck i dont know what to tell you fella. let me ask a few buddies. sorry im no help. sometimes it helps just to talk it out.

liftitlly 12-01-2009 07:12 AM

Im assuming spec is E-oil pressure at the HPOP. I have 40 psi cranking it, on a gauge. I just dont understand what is going on. I swear it has to be something so stupid im overlooking it.:scare2:

im assuming your oil level is good right?? when did you last change the oil filter and what brand is it? :humm:

Chvyrkr 12-01-2009 09:17 PM

Wow, I'd be real tempted to pull the HPOP res and crank the motor. Just to physically watch the gears turn the HPOP over. And to watch the oil feed to the HPOP res.

30 psi is static psi. My truck usually sits about 60 for a second right after I turn it off. Either the HPOP isn't gettin oil. Or all three HPOP's are no good :s:. Or the IPR solenoid is burned up. Which, I'm not sure I've ever heard of. I know you said you hot sourced it full open, what voltage do you see while it's cranking?

What was the original condition? Original codes?

DieselDanBoy 12-02-2009 07:41 AM

i know my question seemed a little dumb but im wondering if if your oil filter collapsed internally.

cummins_guy 12-02-2009 08:12 AM

oil pressure is not created by the oil pump, you might have something wrong inside the engine that creates the pressure, such as main bearings, cooling nozzles, etc...

liftitlly 12-02-2009 05:21 PM

oil level is good. original problem was it died and wouldnt restart my first thought was cps, but it registers when cranking, plus they are so cheap i threw a new one in for fun. oil filter is good, its a motorcraft, rotella oil. oil is clean. every hpop i have put in it had a different ipr. it had been to 3 shops before i got it, and none of them could figure anything out (who knows that the messed up). i have pulled the oil pressure sensor and there is alot of oil that comes out of the hole. im going to pull that reservoir this weekend, and if needed start ripping and taring the engine apart. i will fix this damn thing, but im just frusterated. any other thoughts guys? anything is appreciated even if it seems obvious, maybe something i missed, but i really dont think so...

Oil pressure is created by the High Pressure Oil Pump. HPOP is fed by the LPOP.

To the OP, if the IPR solenoid, the round brass deal with the 3/4 nut and 2 pin connector, has been replaced with each new IPR, and each new HPOP, then litterally the only thing that could be preventing 3 HPOP's with all new parts from creating pressure in a dead ended hose, is the gears in the timing cover not turning the main gear for the HPOP. I don't know why that would happen, without some other large failure in the engine, that I would think would have been obvious when the problem started.

If the low pressure pump is feeding the HPOP, and it's turning with the engine, and the IPR is not stuck closed, then it creates pressure. That part of the system isn't complicated. And the odds of gettin 3 bad HPOP's in a row are worse odds than 1 in a million. Doesn't happen. Even smoked HPOP's make at least some pressure.

Have you had the HPOP res off at any time during this process? If you've installed the new pumps with the res installed, it's possible the gear ended up bound. But that probably wasn't the problem that started all this.

liftitlly 12-02-2009 08:37 PM

Im going to pull the res this weekend. I can turn the engine with the hpop gear, so its virtually impossible its not turning when the crank is, if it can turn the crank. It has to be in the oil feed, but there is plenty of pressure at the top of the res. WTF is going on, the HPOP just feeds off the oil out of the res, so what can be blocking it from getting into the HPOP, the more i think about it the more I decide that it has has has to be something somehow blocking the hpop from getting a sufficient feed of oil, am I wrong??

:argh: Good point...

Have you cranked it with the lines disconnected? Is the HPOP movin any oil at all?

The thing I keep comin back to is the solenoid. If it's smoked even hot wiring it won't open the IPR. But, if the new IPR's had new solenoids then that's probably not the issue.

Did y'all reuse the main gasket, or did you buy a new gasket? Any chance a new gasket for a SD motor made it onto the OBS and is blocking an oil port?

Again, it wouldn't explain the original problem...

just curious have you replaced the lpop? :humm:

That's a pretty big job, and I think he mentioned that low pressure oil pressure was in the normal range.

DieselDanBoy 12-04-2009 07:43 AM

ok i was just thinking if the lpop could be loosing its prime and causing the hpop to not get oil. but it seems unlikely that a truck with 85k on it would have a pickup issue. :humm:

liftitlly 12-04-2009 08:07 PM

ill get it tore down in the mornin and let ya'll know what I find. hopefully i find something that lead me somewhere... I dont care where, but give me a little yellow brick road or something lol. Ill keep ya posted:c:

Chvyrkr 12-04-2009 09:35 PM

Think you may find that gear in the timing cover didn't seat correctly and is bound. Pull the res before you mess with that and let us know what you find. You've definately got me interested.
