My black CPS would kill the truck until the motor cooled. Then it would run like a champ, until it warmed up again.

Another just made the truck run like hell.

I've had the same gray for a couple years in there with no issues.

there is another thread on here that talks about the different sensors and how good they are. the best one seemed to be the one you would use in the International dt466, its blue, but it retards the timing a little bit. not sure how much it does it tho. :tu:

I haven't tried blue, but I've had good luck with gray. I don't really want any timing issues at this stage of my fun.

true i havent had a problem with the grey one either, but the blue one seems to be the permanent fix for alot of people with this problem re-occuring. plus i think with a chip it overrides what the CPS says for timing anyway, so i dont think it will matter. :humm:

Alright:jump:I have found the answer to the main problem I have been batteling. To the imbarrasment to the parts house that tested my batteries, I went down and purchased my own load tester Sat. morning and came home and did my own tests. Low and behold I have a bad battery where they said I had none. Well, it reminded me of an old lesson I learned many years ago when I was working as a mechanic, "NEVER take any one elses word for anything---ALWAYS do your own tests." Went back to the parts store and told the guy and he told me to go home ant test my charging system again because if he exchanged the battery for me he would not warranty the new one for me. Ain't the world grand these days? Well in the morning I will be on his doorstep for a new batt. and a KMA smile on the way out..Thanks to every one who tried to help. A chip only add's a certain amount of timing to what the PCM asks for. Chips don't recognize signals from or communicate with the CPS than I'm aware of. For that matter, a chip will add extra timing over the timing the PCM asks for when the EOT is low. It doesn't set timing to x, it add's y to the x the PCM asks for.

ok see i thought a chip or programmer would give a set time, overriding the given time by the computer or sensor(s)

Well guys, I've finally found my main fix for this dilema. Believe it or not it is a bad battery all along. I had to finally break down and buy my own load tester and test it myself. Whalla:jump: The needle in the tester went flat into the "BAD" zone. Thae parts dealer that tested it for me the first time told me they were both good. Today I called and Interstate dealer in the next town over and he also gave me a rash of crap and said the only test that they honor is the old "Hydrometer Test". Back to the parts house to buy a hydrometer tester and came back home to test. Whalla:jump: One very weak cell and one deader than a doornail. I wonder if they will still say that it is my charging system that is bad? The parts house said that if they exchanged the batt. for me that he would not give me a warranty with it. We'll see tomorrow. Teaches me a old lesson thought. Never trust what the other guy says. Do the tests yourself. Thanks to ever one that tried to help. Dale:c: Guess we can close this one out...

hard to believe a battery would do that huh? i've seen bad starter do the same thing to a 95 powerstroke, batteries were bad as well, cant believe i didnt think about that.

well good to hear its back and running, let us know how that battery warranty works out :pca1:
