Why are you against the drawstraw? Theres nothing wrong with it and it isnt expensive ($30). You could get a drawstraw and big line kit from the tank all the way to the injector pump.

Again, I wouldnt mess with the fuel stuff until you make sure its not the solenoid.

okay i will consider it, how much would it cost to do the lines, get and/ or module and a drawstraw system done? and where to get all of that stuff close to home? is there a write up in here i can look at?

I know I went cheap on the whole new fuel line project and didn't buy the kit, just all the hose and fittings. By the time I was done it took me twice as long to install and cost twice as much as the kits on the market ready made.

The stuff in th fuel that I was talkin about is sludge that accumulates over the years from the fuel and clogs up the pick up tube screen. Shut the truck off and with no suction it falls away clearing the screen. Start the truck up and it starts accumulating around it again, just luck of the draw if it clogs it or not each time.

If you follow the guide I posted it shows how to siphon the tank dry to make it simple to work on. Sloshing fuel left in the tank is a nightmare even if it's only a couple of gallons. It siphons quick, the siphon I listed is under $5 and how many cans you will need depends on how much fuel you start with in the tank. With a full tank you will siphon out between 25-30 gallons, each truck is a little different.

www.vulcanperformance.com has everything you need. if you get the drawstraw you dont have to worry about the module. BUT you dont want to run it below 1/4 tank because it can cause issues (I dont know about you but I rarely go below 1/4 tank anyway). Vulcan WILL put it in the mail for you and ship it USPS so there are no brokerage fees at the border.

Did you get anywhere with the soleniod?

Take a look at Bubbas guide to dropping the tank - its very good.

Redsmokincummins 10-13-2009 09:04 PM

i looked at the selenoid and it looks right on to me. but i will keep my eye on it. i looked at vulcan site and that looks like something that could do the trick., along with the fuel line upgrade kit. im trying to locate a module for the tank. if i cant find one i will robably go with th draw staw and find a warm shop to work in. saty tuned for more updates. Thanks Dr Evil. bubba, and everyone else for your help. :U:

one more question, what size of fuel line would i use 1/2 or 5/8 if i upgraded?

Dr. Evil 10-13-2009 09:10 PM

1/2" is way more than enough.

Stock lines are 3/8" suppy and 5/16" return.

Be aware that you have to make sure you have all the fittings and supplys that youll need. when you ordering across the border its frustrating if you forget something. If you can and talk directly to Eric at Vulcan he should be able to make sure you get everything you need.

Hopefully you have another vehicle.

ok, i will keep that in mind. nope just the good ole dodge i have. I found out today that when cummins changed the lift pump they were suppose to put the upgraded module in as well according to dodge. I will have to phone cummins and see what went on there., to see hwat the real story is anyway.

Dr. Evil 10-19-2009 12:10 AM

Get this fixed yet?

wildbill 10-19-2009 09:26 PM

Updates??

Redsmokincummins 10-21-2009 10:36 PM

well, its still runs fine and hasnt shut off yet. at half tank and still running. Im beginning to think that i should check the relay on the shut off selenoid. i was reading on another site on the fuel system and this seems to happen often. so.. i phoned today to find a relay and found out they are on back order til... dec 31st. i havent had a chance to phone cummins till tomorrow. So, I will update will update again asap.
