Fuse blowing
 

1993 GMC 2500 6.5L Turbo

Went through a car wash. As I was pulling away I noticed no tachometer or speedometer. By the time I got home I noticed all of my gauges were gone. When I re-started the engine I noticed no idiot lights. Found blown fuse (was a 30 amp, but was supposed to be 20). Replaced with a 30 amp fuse (didn't realize it was supposed to be 20 amp until later). Fuse held for a while then blew. Replaced again and fuse blew when I started the truck. Now fuse blows sometimes even when the truck is off.

Engine is running rough and a lot of white smoke when I first start it (lot more than usual). I suspect I might have water in my fuel (the WIF sensor is also on this fuse), but I can't find the drain water drain valve on the fuel filter nor can I find the WIF sensor. I have an electronic copy of the owners manual, but the pictures don't help me much.

Any ideas?

Check to make sure you don't have bare wires anywhere touching metal that may cause the fuse to blow by causing a short. The smoke may be water or oil in the diesel. Try looking up posts on the white smoke. I will see what I can find for you as well.

I go to looking at some posts and I discovered it can also be a turbo problem. If you have a crack in the turbine housing and oil coming out of it can cause white smoke. But yours sounds like a problem somewhere else if its running rough. Could be a head gasket gone bad, injector(s) could be bad, and could be piston rings going bad. Thats just what I read though. Hope it helps you some. :ok1:

Remove an clean all the senors and harness connections. Chances are good that you got some wet. Also, double check the fuse panel to make sure nothing got wet in there.
