'01 Dodge Diesel transmission will not shift into OD...Please help!!

My truck has 147,376 miles and recently I have experienced some tranny problems. The tranny will not shift into OD. It shift smooth up and down but no OD. When I start it in th am and drive it it does great. If I stop some where and get going again it will not shift inot OD. I took it to the dealership and they could not find out what was wring with it. They put it on the scanner and it didn't throw any codes or anything.

The service guys told me to drive it until it goes. WHAT??:booo: Anyway, I need some help as to what it might be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

MS

The shifting is done electronically by the pcm. There are several things that could cause it. The shift solenoid on the valve body might be bad, the pcm or wiring could have a problem or the od clutch pack could be worn out. If the clutches wear out the truck will still move because it has a sprag clutch that keeps the engine from overreving during the shift from 3rd to od. There are two clutch packs in the od unit. One is the straight through pack that is normally locked and the other is the od clutch. the piston disengages the straight through pack and locks the od clutch at the same time and the sprag clutch turns the output until the od clutch locks

This is what mine did before it decided to burn up. Is the TC still locking?

i work at a transmission shop and it is the piston on the od drum the snap ring is more than likely broken or the overdried section is burned up that is the first to go on the 48re trans get it rebuilt before it goes out you are looking at around 2200 to 2700 to get it done and you might as well get a stronger converter ats makes a good triple lock converter for a resonable price

His is a 47re and you can find a much better converter than ATS.
