Removing front brake calipers: PITA
 

Hey to all, Am trying to change the front brake pads on my truck, have the calipers off, outside brake pad loose, inside pad still in caliper....What is the secret to getting these blasted pads out??? This is on my 2006 Dodge. Everything read says the piston section and carrier are to seperate, however I can not get them too. I have done many type of brake replacements in the past, but have not had any this tough.

I have the new clips, but they are "closed" on the ends, so I am assuming that you don't bend the ends and pull out.....any help here would be appreciated.....thanks,

Ive never worked on this new of a truck - but I would think they should pop right off the caliper like any other year. Weird, brakes are usually pretty straightforward.

That is what I thought as well.. I have worked on many types of brake systems, but this one is being a pain in the @$$....

if im undersanding u right, i just done a u-joint on a front of one, the brake caliper itself has two bolts that hold it to a braket. the braket with the 2 big bolts hold the pads. pull the two smaller bolts off, and get the caliper off the braket, and the pad should come off. good luck.

I have removed the 2 smaller bolts from the piston carrier, however it will not seperate from the caliper. There has to be a "secret" to getting these apart.

Take the two bolts out and get the caliper in your hand. Then remove the outside brake pad and use a c clamp to push in the caliper all the way. Once this is completed just pop off the inside pad, it just comes right off, I did not have a problem with mine when I did brakes a few months ago.

Ok, I got it completed... And here is the answer to my own question.
1. After the 2 caliper retainer bolts are removed, a medium sized pry bar (8") is needed on a 45 degree angle to the top on passanger side (bottom on the driver side) with heavy pressure to seperate the 2 halves.
2. Once the pads have been replaced, make sure the guides are out of the way to put the 2 halves back together.

I spent several hours trying to do this before I figured out... Once I figured this out, the drivers side only took 10-15 minutes...
