The dealership called today and said it was starting fine for them.... :ph:

Can you believe that....!.... :madd: :madd: :madd:

Of course I convinced them to keep it and drive it a few times so they really see what it is doing...
I'll update again on Monday. :pca1:

:howdy: Just spoke with the dealership today, they have not looked at it since Friday. Hope to get to it this morning. I'll post their results asap.

Just got off the phone with the guy from the dealership...
He says it needs new injectors. quote's me a price of $4000.000
If that was list price on parts?...Options on different injectors?...
He is too call back.

So, anyone out there have info. on injectors?
Is this a scam or can they really be that expensive. Driv'in me nuts just think'in about spending that kind of money on injectors. :argh:

Especially aftermarket ones. What can anyone tell me about them.?..:humm:
On an 03 with only 103,000 I don't want to put inferior parts that reduce the value of the truck I have. On the otherhand, is there an aftermarket injector that may even be better than the factory ones.?...

I'm sure I'm not the first one sitting here with this decision before me.
What recommendations would anyone offer?

The $4000 is for stock reman injectors including labor. You also get a 12 month 12,000 mi warranty. Meaning if you lose an injector, and it takes out the engine, your covered.

update

Spoke with the tech at the dealership a few minutes ago.
He said he was getting 10oz. huel return on some of the injectors.
So he capped them and tested each individually.
Said they should have no more than 6 oz. of fuel return

He rattled off a few of them #2 cylinder had 8oz.
#3 8 oz.

I asked him why it would start on occasion?
When they first started it to drive it in the shop, it started fine. Said they could find nothing wrong with it. How can the injectors work fine to start one time and not another?.
He said he didn't know.
I also asked why it ran so well if they were bad.
he said if you were pulling it hard you would notice, but under normal driving conditions, the motor is barely working, so the little lack of pressure does not effect ferfromance.

I'm thinking of getting a 2nd opinion from another shop.
I will probably change the injectors myself, pending proof that they are the culprit.

What would anyone else advise?...

Should I just take it in and have them fix it?

Or, I've considered selling the truck as is to another shop owner who may want to do it himself.

veggyoilkid 08-07-2009 04:40 PM

replace injectors? what's the cause? why did they go bad?...

I'll be taking my truck to Florence WI for a second opinion. These guys have impressed me just talking with them on the phone. We'll see if their work back's up their talk. The owner of KURTZ DIESEL has himself a similar problem on an 03 that is still under warranty. And they have just finished a similar problem on another truck, very familiar sounding to mine.
My guess is I need new injectors and an air dog to make the truck right. They completely agree over the phone. I'll see what they diagnose.
I'll post back next week when I hear something. :pca1:

update

Kurtz diesel says the fuel pressure is too low to accurately test the injectors. It is only around 9lbs. They recommend to upgrade the fuel supply [ lift pump ] before they diagnose further issues with the injectors. :argh:
I'm thinking I will order an "air dog" :rocking: install it myself and drive the truck a bit more, maybe I can run the old injectors until late fall and save up some $$$ for injectors.

:humm:
