'07 Chevy Classic Duramax, Limp home mode?

I have a '07 Duramax and since it was new every once in a while the engine light would come on and it would go in to the "Limp Home Mode" that would only let it run to 2000RPM.

I change the fuel filter every 20,000 and more often if this happens.

Every time I took it in tio the dealer they told me to change the fuel filter more often.

I now have 230,000 miles on it and it had started doing this more often. I tried the washers behind the spring that some have suggested and finally put on an Airdog 100 on, both seemed to make it a little better but it is still happening quite often.

I don’t remember the actual code but I know it was something with the fuel pressure.

This is my work truck and is stock with the exeption of a K&N Filter.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

20,000 miles between filter changes seems like an awful lot.. I change my fuel filter every 6000 miles. (Every other oil change)

Something to look into would be a shim kit on your FPRV. Its not too difficult at all to do and will help maintain fuel pressure.

You can see a write up on shimming your FPRV here >> https://www.dieselbombers.com/06-07-...l-lbz-lly.html

heard of several other people with that problem and it ended up being trash in the bottom of the tank and every time low fuel had problems drop the tank and clean it out

I have had it do it to me within 100 miles of putting on a new filter and since I put on the Airdog I have eliminated the stock fuel filter. The Airdog comes with a 2 micron filter.

I tried the shim kit already, that is the washers under the spring that I mentioned.

I dropped the tank and cleaned it out when I put on the Airdog. I didn't find anything in it.

Today I ran about 300 miles with the trailer empty and it ran great but them I loaded about 15,000lbs on it for the return trip it messed up with in 20 miles. I reset it 4 times on the way back and it would only last to the first big hill. After I unloaded it ran fine all the way back to the house.

Thanks for all the input, any more ideas? Any one know what the life expectancy is on the Injector pumps on these?

There isn't one they are problem free within reason. What code are you getting? Does matter what speed, throttle, loaded or not or does just do it any time? What about weather does it happen more in hot weather. I have heard of similar issues before no fix has been found that I'm aware of. Eric at Merchant Automotive in Zeeland, MI 616-772-9551 was working with few guys with similar issues. I don't think any of there problems have been as ongoing as yours though.

I believe the code was P1093 which of course is low fuel rail pressure.

It happens more often with more weight and seems to happen if I hold the throttle steady on long hills.

Don't remember it happening around town, but I run mostly interstates.

Tempature does't seem to matter, it happend to me all winter and summer.

Does seem to be getting steadly worse?

Right before I put in the Airdog, I couldn't go more them 5 miles with out it messing up.

2 weeks ago I had to make one run of 1100 miles and all but 75 was in limp mode. I takes forever to get up to highway speeds like that. Also I know that it is hard on the trans because I can't run in tow mode or it will never shift at that low of RPMs.

If I don’t run the cruse and feather the throttle on the long inclines it won’t happen most of the time but if I forget and hold it steady them it happens.

I have taken the K&N Filter off and it seems to not smoke so much but didn’t help out this issue.

updates???

Still an issue.

It is happening more often under big loads.

I had 26000 on it today and it happend 5 diffrent times in about 700 miles.

Most of the time it is on long uphills and hard pulls.

if its happening under a load it could be FF, weak cp3, injectors retuning to much fuel, or fprv popping

Updates bud??
