1993 Silverado 6.5 turbo starting issues

"Problem is very random"

I would say 65% of the time the truck cranks up fine. The other 35% of the time it will crank up run perfectly for eh about 3-5 seconds and just die as if it just ran out of gas. In order to get it started again i would typically have to turn over twice ea time rolling the starter for about 5 seconds and tappin the gas pedal which im pretty sure you dont do with a deisel and then some smoke comes out and all is well. Once it starts up it runs flawlessly.

Fuel Filter has been changed

Glow Plugs has been changed

Alternator has been changed

Starter has been changed

Batteries has been changed

I could really use a fix for this problem as i have been dealing with it for quite some time now. Thanks for all the help you can give.

how does it sound once it does start? I see you've gone through most of the standard stuff. Things I'd think of is your GPs aren't working correctly, maybe bad wires or relay. the only other idea I have off the top of my head is your timing is way off, although I doubt that would happen. If its clacking really loud then quieting down after awhile, I'd say you should definitely check your GP wiring.

yeah it could be timing. how many miles do you have. because the timing belt will lossen up after 200,00 miles. but im really thinking its glow plugs. you need to check them. if its 1 ohm or more and there becoming bad. better to replace the glowplug controller too when your at it

the 3-5 seconds that it stays running it sounds good but it dies like it just lost its prime.

I would also say the fuel pump is going.
