fueling problem HELP!!!!

Hey guys, I'm working on a 96 ram 3500 ctd and out of the blue, it sucked the filter dry. Replaced the relay, "ghetto" checked the solonoid, checked the fusible link [Blue wire], but have no way to check the lift pump. All checks were good, but still no fuel to the pump. Sure could use any suggestions you may have. Do lift pumps go out all of a sudden, or is there any warning? Haven't pressurized the fuel tank yet, and primed on the lift pump button, and still nothing.... HELP thanks all...:argh::madd:

do you hear you lift pump running, just do i quick crank and the pump will run for 15-30 sec a buzzing sound if nothing i bet its your lift pump, and there is warning but you have to buy a fuel psi gauge to tell.

thanks for the info... however as you can tell by my user name, i am just learnin', mostly the hard way, is the lift pump located under the filter, or in the tank???? I promise I will buy a manual next.:U:

Its under the filter just above the starter

thanks again, I am definately learning as i go. But another question. If the lift pump is mechanical. as it shows in the pics, where does the buzzing come from?? All the pics I see, don't show a wire going to it:argh:

sorry my fault i was thinking dumd yeah you have a mechanical pump:argh::argh: you are going to have to get a gauge to tell on that on

Another thing you can do is remove the fuel filter and push the primer on the lift pump until fuel comes out.And if it doesn't,then most likely the lift pump is bad.But another thing to about the lift pump is it supplies fuel to the fuel pump and if not caught early enough it can take out the injection pump to.
