ticking?
ok guys i was hauling 4 long track sleds up the pass this weekend. trying to keep my egts below 1200*. i forgot to take the cardboard out of my grill and she over headed. truck completly shut off until she cooled. after that ran great the rest of the weekend. tonight i noticed it has a really load tick almost like it needs a valve adjustment again. could that be the cause? also there is now oil coming out of the blow by tube not alot few drops here and there, never was. whats everyones thoughts. truck still has full power and responsiveness.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- oh also when she over heated the oild was boiling no doubt smokin like something else. #4 valve cover not sealing completly smoke was coming out of there. i pulled the oil lines off the turbo to make sure bearings wernt fried, thank god there fine:ouch: |
boiling oil? :humm: Surely that's not good for the bearings!
I would definitely change that oil out now since it's been that hot. |
im going to tomarrow, dont know about boiling but you couldnt touch the oil filter thats hot
ya that is really hot
im going to go ahead and give it another valave adjustment just for kicks see if that helps but its driving me nuts:argh:
what was your oil pressure?
about 50psi
oil change and valve adjustment not help?
im going to do the valves tonight and oil change tomarrow since it cant hurt anything to do it
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- anyone have any other opinions on this like why there is now oil coming out of my blow by tube? ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- ok now its more of a damn knocking rather than a ticking still havent done the oil or valves yet but that will be todays projects, could it be a posible as "spun a rod bearing" and how much of a pain in the ass is that going to be ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- ok i changed the oil today and its not as loud as it was, called the local diesel performance shop and he thinks its the lift pump that has gone out were the rod contacts the cam? the knocking in my opinion sounds the same on top and on both sides, any input would be great ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- could it posibly be the p-7100:argh: ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- we found out today what the deal is, it is coming from the #5 cylander its either the wrist pin and bearing or piston because of the amount of blowby |
Ouch :argh:
:ouch: that sucks man
Is it loudest on the drivers side?
It could be your lift pump. |
nope same on both sides we know its tord the top so its not a rod bearing
Believe the piston is out of round w/ some scoring on the cylinder wall. Can remove the injector and bore scope the cylinder to check it out.
got the engine pulled and it looks like someone took a chisel to the cylender wall, you can grab the piston and move it back and forth and it makes the same sound as when it is running
Scored cylinder and piston slap. What are your plans for it??
full rebuild and boring
Now you can paint everything up all pretty!
I just wish I would have done it while I had mine out. :argh: |
im planning on doing the block and head this time then do the valve covers and everything else. no mudding for me after this
