thermastat help

hey guys this sounds like a dumb question to ask especially comeing from me but were is the thermastat on my 12v and how haRD is it to replace i think its stuck open because my truck wont get abouve 145 degrees

scottsjeeprolet 10-22-2008 09:05 PM

It's right on the front of the engine. Takes about 5 minutes to change. Just follow the upper radiator hose to it.

Leave it sit overnight then drain a gal of coolant from the radiator. This will help keep you from making a mess and you can see if there is any rust contamination.

i looked at the piece that the upper radiator hose goes to and it looks like one solid piece

keithduke01 10-22-2008 11:22 PM

it actually bolts through the lifting eye and into the head

ok ill look to see if i can find anything tomarrow. now let me ask you this, my truck wont get over 145 degress and he heater only blowes cold air on hot, the thermastat is what is causing this right?

wildbill 10-23-2008 04:44 AM

Could also be low on coolant.

As cold as its been getting up there I would say its the thermostat.

stkdram55 10-23-2008 07:17 AM

yeah its probably your thermostat, and also when changing it i think you have to loosen your alternator up it may not be necessary but it makes it easier:humm:

thanks guys i got it done tonight and you do have to take the alternator bracket off the top and take the serpentine belt but not the upper radiator hose. thanks for all the help
