I guess the coolant can bleed into the tranny cooler and cause the clutch discs to deteriorate ... BS?

Any input would be appreciated!

There is no provision to drain the stock converter.

Heres the deal on the tranny flush:

Get a filter/gasket kit

Disconnect the transmission cooling lines that atach to the radiator or trans oil cooler and put some type of flexible hose over the lines and direct them into a drain pan. Start the engine and run until the fluid stops coming out of the tlines. Do not reconnect the lines to the radiator/cooler. Remove the trans pan from the transmission (which BTW is much easier with the ATF removed from the pan).

Replace the transmission filter. Clean the pan well including the magnet. (now is a good time to install a tranny pan drain plug if you bothered to pick one up :humm:). Dont overtorque the bolts. put in about 5-6 quarts of ATF.

Have someone start the engine. Watch the fluid coming out of the trans cooler lines and when it changes color to the new fluid, shut the engine off. You have purged the old ATF from the torque converter. If the old fluid is not discolored where you can see a difference, shut off the engines when fluid stops coming out of the cooling lines. refill the tranny. Bt dont overfill.

Bottle up the ATF and send it to Dennis - he likes adding it to his fuel.

Thanks, Shane.

So, running the engine to purge the tranny doesn't cause any problems for the tranny? Does it need to be in neutral or park? What's Dennis' address? :tttt:

I always forget to let everybody know that I take all drained fluids free of charge, FREE THAT IS, to anybody that will sign the truck they will be drained from over to me.:ok1:

Almost forgot ... which line is the return to the transmission? I don't want to pull the wrong one and have fluid spurt from the transmission.

Sorry, Dennis, she's too big to send through the mail. :w2:

Okay, call off the dogs!

I found an excellent "how to" published by Amsoil that covers the entire procedure. I saved it to my PC, so if anyone is interested, give me a shout.

Can you send that to me?? I will try to post it here.

thx.
