Help runaway..... Sorta

Guys my truck is sitting on the side of the highway I was driving yesterday and the rpm's hung so i put it in neutral and killed it and then coasted to a stop. I restarted it and the rpm's are hanging at 2500 - 2600. I can pull on the throttle mount on the side of the pump and get the rpm's back down to 1100 So my question is what returns the throttle back to idle I know it has to be a spring but witch on and this ever happen to anyone else? Im going to go pick it up today on a trailer but i need my truck running tonight I need it for work tomorrow.

If you can return it back to idle by pulling on the throttle on the pump, almost sounds like a stuck cable.

when mine did it it was the cable, the dealer has it as a recall item, no cost replacement

xzaq103, you should have two throttle return springs at the pump, they hold the pump lever arm forward and connect to a bracket on the timing cover, check to see if they are broken or missing. Dodge did have a major problem with throttle cables on early 2nd gens freying, I would check it too.

Sounds like a return spring/cable problem.

The throttle cable recall only affected 94-96 trucks:

Recall #970 - throttle cable

Ok well I got it fixed. The rod that goes from where the throttle cable connects on the side of the pump to the back of the pump had come loose and spun upside down where it was coming in contact with the bottom of the Shut off solenoid. It’s fixed now. Thanks for the help guys.
