Timing Off
The timming gear to the injector pump was removed. I brought the #1 cylinder up to top dead center on compression stroke. Set the gear on the cam gear with dowel at 4 o'clock position. The truck will start but does not have any power. This is a 1985 FORD 6.9 diesel. The timming gear must be off a little. How do I get it in time.

I believe the cam gear and crank gear marks need to be lined up. Turn the crank one 1/4 turn to the left and the injection pump gear mark points down at a mark on the cam gear. At least that's how the Old's 5.7 timed.

Here's what I could find. It's the "without timing meter" procedure.
WITHOUT TIMING METER 1. Remove fast idle bracket and solenoid, if equipped, from injection pump. 2. Loosen 3 injection pump-to-mounting adapter attaching nuts using tool No. T83T-9000-B or equivalent. 3. Rotate injection pump, using tool No. T83T-9000-C or equivalent, to align timing marks on pump mounting flange and adapter, Fig. 20, to within .030 inch. 4. Remove rotating tool and torque pump attaching nuts to 14 ft. lbs. 5. Ensure timing marks are still aligned, then install fast idle bracket and solenoid, if equipped. Hope this helps a bit. And welcome to DB, dude. :hi: :c: |
