Good News/Bad News

lets start with the good. i final got my truck running yesterday. the thing sounds awsome. i about creamed my pants hearing it run.

now the BAD
i started to take it for its first run. it seemed to run great. for a min. then it died. ended up having to rebleed the fuel lines. got the truck turned around headed back to the shop, and died again. so we rebleed the fuel system again and started it up. we thought it just had air in the fuel line. so we let it idle for a few more min. was running good. went to takk it one more time and died again. got it back to the shop. got it bleed one more time. i let it run while i went in and used the bathroom and took a shower. like 40 minutes or so i came ack out and the truck was making a real bad metal to metal grounding noise from the driver side of the truck. as soon as you just barely tap the throttle it goes away till it hits idle again then right back to grinding. from just off idle to about 2500 it didnt make the noise, just at idle. the only things on that side to make the noise is the VP44, vacum pump, or the cam shaft. i believe it is the VP44 doing it since it only does it at idle.
please help me.

thank yall ahead of time for any help

Moved this here for better exposure. Sounds like you really need some help.

ive been trying to think of something in the vp that would make a noticeable grinding noise and still run and cant think of nothin. I would say Cam shaft bearing or a main bearing, did you put this together or buy as like a crate engine type deal.:humm:

Check to see if the vaccuum pump is working by locking in 4WD or adjusting the vent/defrost air flow to make sure all this still works. If it does you pump is not that broke.

I would agree that if your VP were this broke the truck would be completely dead. What about pump cavitation in your LP. Air in there could do this just like a water faucet will knock when it's pulling air.

i have a new air dog lift pump on it. when ever it dies, the fuel filters are still full of fuel and when ya pull the supply line away from the IP it squirts out the pump. when ever it is sitting still it would run great. throotled at 2500 it would sound great. but as soon as ya put a load on the engine would run out of fuel.
as far as the grinding, if it was the camshaft bearing or vacum pump, it wouldnt stop grinding i dont think. i think it would get worse but im not for sure. im lost here.

did ya change the fuel filter or did you delete the stock fuel filter that might be your stalling problem, the grinding still is hurting my brain

biged681985 08-31-2008 04:29 PM

i deleted the stock fuel. why would that be the problem. it was ment to be taken out as best as i could figure.
another reasom i am think the IP is because it had been sittin in a ware house for 2-3 years.

stkdram55 08-31-2008 04:32 PM

well if it was sitting in a warehouse for 3 years the old filter might have got who knows what in it and just let enough fuel to idle it but when it calls for more fuel it could starve it, but since its not there forget about it.

Is there anyway you can record the sound and post it with like a video camera or something.

Uncle Bubba 08-31-2008 05:31 PM

When you installed the VP did you use the right Banjo in the outgoing fuel side of it. It's different then all the others. Looks the same from the outside but the inside of it has a spring and ball bearing in it that is a fuel pressure regulator to hold the internal pressure in the VP. You may be getting enough fuel to run it at idle but not enough to support additional RPM's and you would be starving the VP at that point. This would also lead to cavitation problems.

im not for sure on the fitting part. im pretty sure i put the one it said to in the right place but i may have got them mixed up. ill check and see in the morning. but if it was that wouldnt it do it when it was sitting still?

as far as recording something i dont have a video camara or voice recorder. just the one on my phone. and i dont know how to upload stuff on the internet. it took me months to figure out how to do what little in forums and stuff i do know how to do.
