7.3 suddenly died
Hi. I have a '99 f350 with the 7.3L. I was leaving work the other day and the truck just died, no warning at all. I check the fuses and found the fuel bowl heater had blowen so i disconnected the heat and replaced the fuse. The truck cranks but no attempt at starting. I had a diesel mechanic come out and look at the truck. He was positive that the IPR was bad. After doing my own research I found that the ICP was the original in the truck. The truck has just over 250,000 miles on it. So I replaced both the ICP and the IPR. Note just a couple of years ago i had the CPS replaced. (boy that was a long trip) I had a friend come out with an ODB2 tool and we couldn't find anything wrong. RPM's come up a couple hundred while cranking. Oil pressure comes up to 3000ish. He ran an injector test and we could hear all 8 injectors clicking. The fuel filter bowl fills with fuel. What else could it be? Any help would be much appreciated.

If your CPS was bad it wouldn't show any rpms on the tach. After the fuel heater fuse popped you replaced fuse and unplugged fuel heater then cranked it or unplugged fuel after you cranked it I would recheck fuse? Is the ipr clean where the solenoid slides onto it and the little nut is tight? Have you tried leaving ipc unplugged when cranking?

The fuel heater fuse blown on a 99 that I had just a couple of days after I had the fuel filter changed. The dealer said an aftermarket filter that included the cap had been installed, and that was what shorted out the heater. I had them put an OEM cap and filter on it, and never had any more trouble from it. Sounds like yours is a little more in depth.
