Losing Throttle 01 Dodge

Ok, i can be driving down the road anywhere between 25 and however fast, all of a sudden my pedal will just go away and the truck will start slowing down. I can put the pedal all the way to the floor and let up, then roll into it again and it will come back. I thought it was a fuel delivery issue so i put a new lift pump on it, still doing it ! Any ides ? Starts hard sometimes too. Throttle postion sensor ??

Whit 06-12-2008 03:23 PM

prolly yer APPS

need to do a re-set on it

turn key on but dont start
slowly press throttle to floor
slowly let throttle up all the way
turn key off
start truck and enjoy

I rescued my son in laws truck after he paid 160 bucks to have it towed............32 seconds later I had him going and didnt lift the hood.......heheheheeeee priceless :c:

If the simple reset doesn't fix it use this link for directions on how to check your APPS and do the full blown reset. https://www.dieselbombers.com/24-val...tomy-apps.html

Any smoke?

Resetting the APPS is not a long term fix. Got any codes? My guess is the VP is going out slowly...

Sometimes if you dissconnect the battery the sensor just loses it's setting for some reason and once it's reset it works just fine again. I always do the reset after everytime I dissconnect everything just to say I did it.

In the case of resetting the adjustment of it I think over time they just work themselves out of adjustment and need to be put back in place. I may wrong here cause I really don't know what happens to them but I re-adjusted mine about a year ago not long after a new VP was put in and so far it works great. Lowered EGT's and picked up a little power. Most importantly it stopped the dead pedal issue I was havin.

Wyatt Earp 06-12-2008 04:22 PM

Not saying you aren't correct. My example there is for my truck with big injectors. I reset the APPS because of the loopy idle and within a week it is back. This is likely an issue with the injectors themselves or with the shuttle inside the VP.

Ok guys i did the reset on my APPS...Better but still doing it a bit. Is it safe to say it pretty much shot ? Or should i try re-calibrateing it before i buy a new one ?? Thanks for all the help !!!

Whit 06-13-2008 09:21 AM

A buddy put one in his 98, he found a website that they were only 175. I will get the website and post here for everybody !

Dr. Evil 06-15-2008 11:46 AM

Have you got it fixed yet?

RJ818 06-17-2008 10:33 AM

Sorry guys been gone for a couple days.

The throttle issue is way better but still does it every now and again, but..... it still starts hard when it warmed up. In the morning it starts very easy but i am getting white smoke. Somebody said the pump could be headed out ? is that a tell tale sign ?

Dr. Evil 06-17-2008 11:03 AM

It is very likely your VP-44 - I was thinking this when you initially posted but was hoping it was just the APPS. White smoke, dead pedal and hard starts when warm are classic signs of a dying VP-44.

Have you scanned the truck for codes? What kind of fuel pressure have you been running?

Wyatt Earp 06-17-2008 11:48 AM

What he said, is what I said. Sorry for the potentially expensive news

Whit 06-17-2008 12:56 PM

ya scan yer codes and report back............dont sound good

Jazz 06-17-2008 01:03 PM

Well I hate to tell ya this but that is exactly what mine did and I was hoping apps. It ended up being my vp-44. Hope it's not so. Let us know what you find out.

dukeboy_318 06-17-2008 02:54 PM

is it surging any at ldle??

Diesel Dawgs Performance 06-17-2008 03:05 PM

Sounds like its time for an Industrial Injection VP44 or Blue Chip Vp44

RJ818 06-18-2008 07:43 AM

I have to put my fuel pressure gauge on it and check it. Havent got to that yet. It doesnt surge at idle...yet ! I was afraid the pump was headed south. Which pump is the better choice ???

Dr. Evil 06-18-2008 10:22 AM

Please tell me that you have a pyrometer and boost guage.

RJ818 06-18-2008 02:45 PM

Oh yeah...For sure.. Wouldnt leave home without it !

Dr. Evil 06-18-2008 03:05 PM

You should really have a full time fuel pressure guage in the cab.

Have you had a chance to check for codes?

dukeboy_318 06-18-2008 03:39 PM

i may have missed this, but are you running on the stock lift pump??? if so, your situation is identical to when my 98.5's lift pump went out, i had no throttle and hard starting, it just ran like crap. before replacing that expensive VP44, get you a fass lift pump at the very least a 95 gph one. they run around 400 bucks but are well worth it. I thought on my 98.5 it was the VP44 and once i put that fass pump on it, the problem was cured.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

nice looking rig btw

Whit 06-18-2008 03:42 PM

his sig once said he had a Holly pump?????????

dukeboy_318 06-19-2008 02:18 PM

im not a fan of holley pumps, i burnt through them almost as fast as i did with stock lift pumps, dont try BD's lift pump either, there junk, mine went out in 4 weeks, 800 miles. thats why i went with the fass, yeah its louder, but man i can mash it with my sticks and the PSI not drop below 14

Dr. Evil 06-23-2008 11:40 AM

RJ818, what did you find?
