Cummins ISC 350 stalling upon acceleration

I have a 2000 American Eagle coach with a Cummins ISC 350. When I accelerate from a stop especially after idling for a few minutes like at a long light or construction stop, it sputters and has actually died a few times.

I replaced the fuel filter/water separator on the side of the engine (Napa Gold 3422) which I got at Amazon (http://amzn.to/2fcuOiy) It got better. The fuel that came out of the filter is black. See pic.

I found a 2nd filter at the rear of the engine which has a bowl and a valve on bottom. I drained it, no water came out, only more black fuel. I ordered that filter too. My question is, how do you stop the fuel from dripping when changing that filter? The other one was up high so as soon as I drained a little out it stopped flowing.

Help?!!

If you don't have a shut off valve you can not stop the fuel flow unless you some way plug it. Normally just replace the filter while it is leaking. Most of the time if your filters are plugged it will loose fuel and power on a pull not on instant acceleration. Check your supply pump to make sure it is pressurizing the system. I am not sure why your fuel is black but you might have algae in your tank and that is causing your problem.

That is some nasty looking fuel. Unfortunately all the MH mfgrs weren't thinking of you when they plumbed the fuel system. At your fuel/water separator, you can and should install some ball valves on each side of filter head to eliminate air entry/loss of prime. 1st thing to do to T/S engine performance is find a way to connect a hose to filter head & run from good clean fuel container and see if engine cleans up. If it does, tank will have to be pumped out, should be anyways as black fuel often comes from algae build up in tanks. How long have owned this coach? The CAPS(Cummins Accumulator Pumping Sytem) injection pump was CECO's 1st attempt at building their own individual cylinder injection pump. Many issues with the CAPS pump and common rail came along in 03. Caps pump was only used for 5 years. If you've owned since new, bet you've bought a few at least. Get your tank(s) pumped out, find some algae treatment, use it a few months and never run red/offroad fuel. To avoid algae in future, before storage, fill your tanks completely!!
