Duramax Tranny Help

i just bought an bullydog chip (am totally not impressed with how slow the chip was and everything, kept freezing on me and was basically junk) but i finally got it installed and as soon as it went through my engine light came on, DTC P2610, went to test it out and my tranny temp was fairly higher then normal about 70 degree's or the second line on the gague. I kept an eye on it, and the shifts were seeming very sluggish, and felt like the tranny was slipping alot durring shifts. Then my tranny locked up in 4th gear, i limped it home and let it sit, DTC P0700 was comming up, i am able to use all gears now, and have returned it to stock, but my tranny i think is running to warm, at the second line, is there anything that could have been screwed up?:humm:
BTW it is an 07 duramax with the allison 6 speed tranny (the engine that is bumped up to 365hp)

what power level were you running, is this an lbz or lmm dmax

And is your transmission bone stock?

and when you did hit 5th gear and limped it did ya do it under WOT

Did you let your transmission "learn" the new power? Not that it matters just curious.

If you limp your tranny you can pull over and turn the truck off for 30 seconds, when you restart the truck it should go back to normal but the CEL will stay on for a while.

Now that you have limped it you will do it more often, try to stay off the right pedal during 4 to 5 and 5 to 6 gears. All of the lower shifts should be fine but at 365 (I am assuming 50 hp tune) they all should have been fine.

my transmission held up fine on the 135hp tune through the first 4 gears before it was rebuilt. but yes noproblem brings up a good point too, did you give your transmission time to learn how to shift?

JohnBoy05 05-25-2008 04:21 PM

sorry about the wait. How can i tell the difference between the two? No i didn't let it learn the power right off the bat i did after about 100km, and it is stock, and i don't know what "WOT" is i am just 17, and getting into a new vehicle, not very smart when it comes to mechanics and i was on the extream setting thanks to the programmer not letting me change it.

WOT= Wide open throttle

John, what power is that extreme setting rated as 120hp i think

anyway thats too much for a bone stock. a good figure to stay around is 70-80 hp.

Dont feel bad i did the same thing too when i first got my programmer limped within 20 minutes of when i got it.

anyhoo you can look into getting a trango jr shift kit, and have it installed for one hour labor i think and it really helps out alot.

But you have to be really careful now going into the 5th gear under WOT cause i can limp again and even easier now than before since it had been limped.

These 6 speeds can be very strong with just a few mods, like a t-go jr. shift kit and a new torque converter. i believe one one is holding 540hp with just those mods and running 12.5x's. but the main thing is getting it to learn to handle the new power. usually takes a while up to a week even.

WOT = wide open throttle or full throttle

If you trans is stock and you had it on extreme, it is now limped!

Limping the trans will hurt your clutch packs, after each time it is limped it becomes easier to do everytime there after.

Much more than 70 extra hp on a stock trans isnt good for very long. You will need to upgrade the trans before long before you burn up the clutch packs. Upgrading trans isnt cheap, but breaking trans is more costly. Keep the power down low, let the trans learn the new power levels and dont put it on extreme w/ stock setup. :U:

OK thanks guys i appreciate the help alot, And i will definatly look into that Jr shift kit. and will keep it on the lower hp setting... for now:w2:

i see you got a lift too, thats alot of strain on the transmission with a programmer on there
