Need help

While driving home the other day. My diesel (190,000) miles. Lost power and died. I was pulling a trailer and doing about 65mph on the freeway. It would start up and then die twice. Then would not turn over. I had a spare fuel filter with me so i changed in out after drainging what looked like water out of the bottom of the filter housing. Primed it and it started and made it about 30 more miles before it died again. This time i could not get it started again and to have it towed home. T truck is stock and up to this point had been running fine for the last 2 hrs of our trip home. I did stop and top off the fuel tank ( 6 gals) about 30 mins before the first break down. Where do i start to try and figure out whats wrongs? Was thinking it was poss bad diesel
