Chev 6.5L TD - New pump but no fuel

Hi, I am trying to get my '94 Chev 6.5L Turbo Diesel running again after two years of setting in the yard. The injection pump was weak when I parked it, and the AC compressor and clutch froze up, taking the serpentine belt with it.
I have replaced the injection pump, (which I found to be quite a job, but being small enough to climb into the engine compartment helped). The problem is that with the new pump, I don't believe any fuel is pumping.
The lift pump is sending fuel, lift pump hard wired with ignition and verified flow to injection pump.
The fuel solenoid is activating, (I have even tried hard wiring it to the battery to make sure the sound is the same as when I turn the ignition key to activate it).
I have pulled 4 of the fuel lines loose from the injectors, but I don't see any fuel coming out.
1) Do I need to some how prime the fuel pump? I didn't think that was necessary.
2) Could there be something electronic related to the injection computer, on the side of the pump, that is not getting the right signal, or the computer somehow preventing the pump from pumping?
3) Have connectors had a history of problems that perhaps a connection is not being made.
4) Recommendations for things to try?
All thoughts appreciated. Thanks in advance.
