Problem with 2000 7.3L
 

Hi everyone, of coarse you all know i'm new to the site. I have a 2000 7.3L and the problem is that it spits and sputters at low rpms while you accelerate slowly. The problem started when I had a TS performance chip in my truck, which fried the brain to my pickup. I took it to the shop to get it fixed. The mechanic said he checked everything and no codes came up. so I changed my fuel filter thinking possibly it could of gotten bad fuel but the more I played with the truck I noticed that was not the problem. As long as you accelerate quickly there is no problem. Hopefully someone can help.

My first thought is that it is the TS performance chip. If it fried the PCM (brain) then you are lucky it runs. If you haven't done this already,remove the TS chip to get the truck back to stock and go from there. If the ECM (engine control module/ PCM powertrain control module) however you want to call it. If it has been compromised than it needs to be replaced or reprogrammed. I doubt that you "fried" it but unless the mechanic is fully familiar with the systems in the newer trucks, AKA NOT a shade tree mech. then you better get a shop manual. The ECM can be reprogrammed by disconnecting the battery for a period of time then driving it for a time to relearn. A code reader may not help unless it is the type used by the dealer.

Thanks for the info but I did take the TS performance chip out. Also I had to replace the PCM, which just to let ya know that's a 1000 dollar fix. Yes the mechanic replace the PCM and it was running stock for awhile. Stock it was spittin and sputterin. I installed a Bully Dog GT Tuner to restore some of my torque, which I need for towing, and yes this is also and everyday truck to go to work. The bully dog seems to help with the spitting and sputtering when I set it on extreme or performance and on towing it reduces the problem but its still there.

When was the last time you changed your oil and filter. The oil plays a big part in these engines. Dirty oil can make it run bad.
