white smoke

I have a 1984 Ford F-250 4X4 with the 6.9 International. It has 125,000 and was kept in a garage for the last 4 years and not started. The truck started and ran ok for about 100 miles, although it puffed white smoke between shifts. It started to lose power, puff more smoke after only about 15 miles of highway use. Now it will not idle and has no power. The motor was very dirty and I did degrease it, but that is the only service that has been done.

clogged fuel filter would be my guess..sounds also like a lot of crap in the fuel system from sitting so long...may have to drop tank and clean and go all the way to the injectors...alge growth ya know.....:tu:...scott..

First I cleaned tanks, lines, motor, etc. I have emptied old fuel from both tanks, flushed, and filled both tanks. Installed new fuel filter. I still have the same problem. I removed the filter and did not get anything but clean fuel when i dumped the filter out. still have the problem

I just removed the check valve. It had a minimal amount of foreign material and the spring worked ok. I cleaned and replaced the check valve. It took about 45-60 seconds to start (over a period of 3ea 15-20 second tries). I ran normal for about a minute then lost power.:humm:

Any ideas on what next I can do?

Found the problem. H2O seperator was sucking air. Any ideas where I can pick up a replacment, seems ford quit making them as well as a retro-fit. The junk yards in the denver area also were of no help. thanks

Stanadyne makes great inline fuel and water/separator for $125 if you don't have any luck finding a direct replacement. Stanadyne is the manufacturer for the fuel system on the 6.9 ford. If you are in Denver check out Central Motive Power or Certified Injection Service out of Salt Lake
