Power Steering Problem 1947 GMC PD3751 6-71 Diesel
Hello there....
I have a 1947 GMC PD3751 Silverside Greyhound Bus that has had a power steering mod. Suddenly can not move front wheels after having brake pads installed. Any thoughts on this or is it just by chance this problem happened at this time? Everything worked perfect before the brake work.... what should I be looking for? The mod looks clean, got plenty fluid, but did notice a line rub near fluid tank... not rubbed through, but will replace asap. Can only move 22" steering wheel between 1/4 - 1/3 turn in either direction before stop and hear strain. (can feel in steering wheel) I can send pic's for proper ID.... I cant tell you if things are mixed matched or not.... I didn't do the work, I just bought her last year & have not had any problems with steering at all till now. Only 4500 miles on drive line (so i was told). She "Thunder" is a true beauty.... love the vintage lady and should you want to take a peak, she has her own website at: THUNDER I look forward to hearing from you & let me know if you want me to send some pictures of the pump/res/column.... on n on.... Many Thanks Janice GtrPknToolToatinMama :) Motto: If you take care of it, it will take care of you.:rocking: |
Have you raises both front wheels off the ground and tried turning the wheels? Is it hydraulic brakes? Or air? Hydraulic steering?

She has Air brakes & Hydraulic steering. |
I'd get it on jack stands to take weight off the front end. Still can't turn but a little bit, have someone turn the wheel while you watch and see what's hitting

The power steering isn't working as it should for such a heavy vehicle

I think it came out of a Ford F7000 (dump truck ?)... I could be wrong, but some of the numbers i managed to locate on the housing seems to lead that direction.
Still looking into Ford transit bus .... There's a big B circled and some more stamped on the housing, but can't quite make it out:argh: |
It should be big enough to turn it. But if its not then something is wrong. Pump not working, low on fluid, bad seals could be several diff things
