06 cummins idle issues then lost all coolant

Hi all, I'm new here and to diesels. I inherited an 06 dodge 2500 cummins when my dad passed away and have been using it to pull my lawn trailor as I do lawn care. A few weeks ago I noticed it was idling at only 2-300 rpm and sounded rough. Today when I would sit still in park the tach would go up to about 450 but it was audibly idling much higher than that. After a few trips of this happening I got out at a stop and all my coolant poured out from around where the water pump is. I had towed home. Any ideas what would cause these issues. Please help as my truck is my lively hood. Thanks. Scott

water pump is out is where coolant came from. no way the truck is idling at 2-300 rpm. it is either the crank sensor isn't working right, but my guess would be the dash is needing replaced. they have problems with the dashes in those year models. does the tach have full range of motion?

Yes water pump is out. The tach started reading low few weeks back, then every one in a while it would jump up to around 700 which I believe is the right reading. Then would drop back to 2-300. It didn't feel different regardless of the reading and Yes the tach was moving just seemed low on every thing ( shifting, running, etc). But I noticed it wasn't sounding right when it read low. Not sure what to call it but rough and noisy.

it sounds like the dash cluster may be going out. hard to say from here though.

thanks, I know it can be hard to diagnose over the internet especially when the person describing it is uninformed. Is there anyway a bad waterpump can cause idle issues?

no way it could
