Cummins NTC 300 Big Cam

I have 1987 Freightliner with a 300 Big Cam.
Number 2 injector went bad a washed out the piston.
To order a new piston assembly---I don't know if it is a Big Cam 1, 2, or 3.
How do i find this information? Thanks
Jedogo

Call Freightliner or Cummins with the Engine Serial Number, they will be able to tell you.

cummins lives and dies by what they call the CPL number, control parts list. it's specific to each application, fr8liner, pete, kw might have the same engine but each will have a different CPL. dealers won't even talk to you without it. it's 4 digits, and will be on the data tag, usually on the front left corner near the air compressor, pump drive.

I had my cpl when I ordered my parts. I have another cummins engine in a Wabco scraper, so I was aware of the cpl. I never understood the purpose of it until you said what it stood for.

I now have a question about the sealant used in the liner installation. The book says to use a cummins sealant. Would a high-temp red silicone work OK?

I wouldn't stray too far from manufacturer specification. Liner seals are subject to a lot of abuse. Coolant and oil, pressures, expansions, heat, cold, etc. I'd use Mfg. recommended.
