New to this diesel life But lov-n it.

I have a 1985 Chevy step van/P30/ bread truck 6.2 liter non turbo diesel with 4l80 auto trans. I am a Chef that is looking to convert this into a RV and tow a trailer kitchen around the USA to fairs and festivals and sale Magnificent Food at the events.

It has 300,xxx miles on it now and i want to rebuild the drive train.

Alright, what Cumming will swap with the 6.2 liter with minimal mods and will tow the trailer i have to tow. I will be in mountainous regions in my travels.

The chassis is a 1985 P30/step van /bread truck about 20 footer.

A 6BT 12 Valves is proably what you want to do, there may be some modifications you will have to do but it can be done, if you find a good 12 valve in good shape you wont have to modify it unless you want 500HP. The engine will be strong enough stock for what you want to do hell its strong enough to pull 15K.. Welcome to Diesel Bombers!

6BT Cummings swap

Thank you for this info, the 6BT Cummings is a non electronic? what years should i look for and what transmission will work with this. The existing trans is a automatic.

Also is this 12volt or 24volt or does it matter.

Again thanks.

Most diesels are a 12 Volt system most of the time, they have two batteries but are wired in sieries and it just doulbles the amperage not the voltage. the 6BT is non electronic or we just call them 12 valves on here. the best years are 94-97 since they use a Piston Injection Pump and not a Rotary Injection pump and the vary in horsepower those years but produce the same ammount of torque. There a site called Destroked.com that sell the adapter plates for Cummins to Chevy and Fords to Dodges, You will most likly use the chevy fly wheel or if you want to spend the 600 bucks you can buy an adapter fly wheel. It will be easier for you to use the exsiting transmission, and in honesty I am not familiar to puting a Cummins into a Chevy and Im in the Midst of Putting one into a ford. Im sure someone in this world has done it...

They came stock with a 4BT.

If you're running around the city, probably a better choice that an 6BT in both cost and fuel mileage.

4BT's don't go cheap though....

Edit:

see my reply in your "6.2 non turbo" thread.
