Do I Have Too Many Diesels???

I bought my 1st 6.2 about 7 years ago. I just by chance drove down a different side street near home, and saw a big for sale sign on an '86 dark blue Suburban 4x4. It had a nice Fisher plow, and I was thinking I should have an extra plow truck, as my '83 Chev 1/2 ton short bed 305 gas was really a parts truck I saved from the junkyard.

This sub was REALLY rusty, flapping 1/4 panels, but I opened the hood, and staring back at me was a Banks turbocharged 6.2! So I made a deal for $1200, which was alot, but I'm a car nut, and the turbo got the better of me, so I figured it was worth it!

Anyways, I drove it home, and the starter sounded REALLY crappy, and a couple days later, after doing some burnouts and showing off my newest junker/clunker to friends, the starter fell off in my driveway! Welcome to the 6.2 little loose starter bolt problem!

Luckily the broken bolt was easy to remove from the block, and I fixed a whole bunch of other minor problems, like corroded battery terminals, loose belts, leaky tires, sagging door hinges etc...

I drove it to New York City a couple of times, and on one trip to go get a rust free lo miles Hyundai for a friend, the crankshaft snapped 50 miles from home. Luckily, the Hyundai was running well, so we hopped into it, and had a tow truck drag the corpse home.

I found another 3/4 ton (tailgate body) 6.2 Sub the next day, and drove 100 miles into Vermont's Green Mountain Forest preserve during a snowstorm at nite, driving a badly steering mis-aligned Hyundai to get it. The seller was a jerk, and wouldn't give me the title until I threatened to take him to the police. I had given him more than 1/2 the $1800 to hold it. I never liked this sub as it had the 3 speed TH400. My 1st Sub was a 1/2 ton, so had the 700R4 and 3.42's. this one cranked to much w the 4.10's!

I did a bunch of repairs to that one, and traded it to a friend in Indiana a couple years later. I towed a Corvair for the agreed to engine rebuild to him, and he's happy w that 4x4 Sub, tho he only uses it on his muddy property, and I'm happy w the rebuilt engine in my '64 Corvair.

I've since bought several other diesel Subs, all from out west, so the rust issue is DONE! I also still have that 1st RRRusted Banks Sub, I just havn't had the time to scrap it! Maybe this summer???

Cool videos. I like the old body style on those old Chevys.

my best friend has 5 Cummins, is that too many? lmao he has 2 first gens, a 91 and a 93, a 98 12v, a 01 24v his Sled Puller, and his 04 he drives daily, i think he collects the 12v's, his 98 and 93 are stunning and look show room new and sit in the garage, he just bought the 91 and is rebuilding it. Too each thier own, I can see my self owning a max of 3 diesels, mine, my wifes, and possibly a dedicated puller, we will see.

Man I wish I had the money for three diesels. I'd say if I was single living at my dads and making what I make in the mill I'd have some nice trucks, offroad toys and guns
