Another Ford 6.0 person

I bought a Ford F250 in 2004 not knowing of the problems that I was going to have. The EGR thing popped up and as usual, I checked for a new one. OUCH!! After a little research, I found out how to pull it and clean it. Works real good now and to clear the code, the dealer told me to disconnect the batteries for 5 min. that also worked. Runs good now.
Something else to pass on. DON"T take your diesel to the ford dealer for any kind of service. I did and was told a very interesting thing. Seems Ford knew that the ball joints on 2004-2008 F series trucks were not of good quality. The dealer told me the left ball joints were bad, both of them as well as needing all kinds of flushes,( I.E brakes, trans, powersteering) on a vehicle that has 58000 miles. Beware of Ford dealers unless you really know them. The ball joints on mine are in fact not bad.
Other than that stuff, I am in the pacific northwest and when I retire, I won't be here!!!:tttt:

How did they check the ball joints to determine they were "bad"?

58,000 miles is right in the neighborhood for a major service interval, and if a F-Series Super Duty is used for any type of severe service, is overdue for the power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid to be changed.

What dealer were you going to? There are some up here that I wouldn't take an oil filter to for them to drain without screwing it up, but there are others with very skilled technicians.

Welcome, by the way......Dan

I took it to All Star Ford in Olympia. Not going back there for anything. By the way, the ball joints are not bad and I wittnessed the mechanic checking them. I did however need new shocks. As for the servicing, Ford had to fix the trans due to a valve exploding and that was about at mile 10000. so the trans was basicly rebuilt. As for the other stuff that needs to be serviced, I'll do it since I are a mechanic. Just getting too old to be crawling around on the floor. Also, I haven't done too much heavy pulling with this truck except for a 29 foot camp trailer.
