I'm located in Calgary, this truck I need is going to be a family unit as well so i'm more curious what the two are like right out of the box like torque and milage etc...

am I even talking in the right place or should this have started somewhere else in here?

dmaxjenn 08-24-2008 02:02 PM

This is the welcome forum, but its all good, im sure the boys will chim in,, It depends what you want.:humm: Id go take each of them fo a test drive,, and go from there personaly. and the fords arent so bad either really.. they have great space in them, for a family the back seat in a f350 is very roomy...... the dmax no so much and the dodge a bit more then the dmax.....I have three teenagers and a baby so space was an issue for sure.perfomance and looks.. well im just bias to the look of the dmax...the older styles not so much the new ones..lol

I love my Cummins I was a Chevy girl to the bone (still have a 78 silverado 4X4 ranch truck) until I test drove & extensively researched Ford, Chevy & Dodge. The Cummins I wanted was a 1200 mile round trip to purchase. I wanted that one that bad. Mind you I am not one to travel unless I am on my way to a fire. I will never forget gettin leavin the dealer & gettin on the freeway on ramp with my daughter & I (we snuck off & bought the truck when my husband was out on the road workin) we were ear to ear grins with the power of that truck & I used to help hubby build & race 1/4 mile cars so speed is not anything new to me. It was just that Major Adrenaline RUSH of pure Torque & Power. omg I could go on & on but I will use self discipline & stop lol

Take the trucks you are thinkin about & take em on a test drive with the family or rent one for the weekend if that's an option where you live.

Goodluck I am sure you will be happy with whatever diesel you choose ;)

I think it was diesel power mag that did a head to head comparison of the new trucks for 08, in the end tha D-max won out overall, power, torque(by like one or two numbers over dodge and a good 50 or so over Ford), looks they said ford was best, as well as brakes, and dodge got the vote for best towing performance, but IMO? I would go with a D-max everytime....
But, I am biased too, I like GM over Dodge, and I cannot stand a ford... but that is just me....

O.K. since i'm new to here I guess I got a free pass for posting in the wrong spot THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN WITH ANY OTHER TOPICS but since were on this one what about 05-07 dodge and the duramax what are they like stock and with small mods like cold air and exhaust:run:

Nitelord 08-24-2008 08:58 PM

As far as what truck to get, you are going to have to test drive and find what you like the best. I own an 05 Cummins and love it but I would buy a DMax. The whole thing boils down to what you have planned for it. Do you plan on modding it or just using it as is? (I know that was a stupid question if you stick around here long enough) In my opinion both are really nice trucks and both will serve you well in that year model you are looking for. Just make sure if it is the Dodge to go with the 5.9 and not the new 6.7.

Old Pigiron 08-25-2008 12:06 AM

If only they would put a Cummins in a Chevy/Gmc, then you would have a perfect truck. I love my Cummins, but the rest of the truck has issues, but then again, its 17 years old.

I really like my cummins.Very reliable, and mine gets good fuel milage. If you do get a cummins,go with the 5.9 like mraynor said. They've proven themselves. And welcome to diesel bombers.:hi::hi:

We have 3 Dodges and are thinking about a 4th. :hi::howdy:

MMStar923 08-26-2008 02:01 PM

:hi::hi: go with the cummins!!

Wyatt Earp 08-26-2008 02:51 PM

Cummins all the way. Fewer moving parts, easier to work on, great power out of lot, best mileage in real world conditions and best towing (low end grunt = torque).

An older one is better but that's just me.:c:

Welcome to DB. :hi: Make yourself at home. :c:

The best thing that you can do is to spend some serious time test driving several candidates from both manufacturers. I would honestly suggest 5 or more of each. You'll find enough things you love and hate about them and can make a good decision about what you can and can't live with.
